Mono shock lost rebound?

Cheers mate, i could get an Ohlins for $!375, I'm happy to pay that but they don't have great reviews? Are they really that bad?

bad ? no IMHO the TTX shocks are fantastic i love mine to bits

a lot of people found the ohlins recommended springs are a bit soft and getting the most out of a TTX shock requires some thought before turning the clickers even "tuning" with shims requires an understanding of the shocks different functions .. not just reading a shim chart

have a look on advrider as well as ktmtalk classifieds for wps

Thanks Bushie, the bike has only done 20hrs so I'm not real keen to put something second hand on it, I will shop around to find the best price.

Do you know the exact model of ohlins shock that fits a 2010 FX 450?

Thanks for the link Kt88 but it will have to be a new ohlins shock I think.

no but they are mounted "upside down" so you probably can't use a ktm one.

send David an email he will sort it out.

Had a look at the shock today.

That is the scoring in side the main body.

Part no. 57 (rebound disc) above was broken in to 4 pieces and floating around the shock causing the internal damage.

I took out down to Chad at Chad's off-road setups in Geelong and he is going to replace the cylinder only with a brand new imported one from the states for a margin of the original quote. He had never seen this happen also?

I knew there had to be a better/cheaper way to get this sorted.

Thumbs up to Chad!

that doesn't look to bad actually .. if it were mine id just machine some small tapered grooves into the body where those marks are as an experiment in PDS systems :D

You know I kinda agree, do they make shocks with a tapering grove in them, so in the mid section they are deeper then either end to make them firmer as the shock compresses or is that just silly talk?

defo wouldn't get a new one just because of that!

No mate,
not a whole shock just cylinder.
A guy in America makes the tube only, sounds like a better cheap fix, I could try to find out the name of the guy from Chad if it would be helpful for you?

not much call for them round these parts but in East ukraine or outer mongolia I'm told they are a big hit!

LOL!

yep it is done, offroad trucks mostly use bypass tubes but grooves are another way to achieve the same thing

Husqy 510 (KTM talk) put one in his shock and used a 1/2 piston bottoming cup (like ohlins)

Did you take it apart yourself ? Any problems doing it yourself ? So if you don't mind how much did the fix cost ?

The KTM dealer in Geelong took it apart, I didn't have the tool to remove the spring nut. It's not fixed yet, one it's done I will update on the cost.

It's going to cost $350 aud for the replacement cylinder plus I'm having it re valved and a heavier spring fitted. Also heavier springs in the forks and a new back tyre. I am going to have the moose tube removed and replaced with a super heavy duty tube.

No problem smash. I stumbled on this thread while doing my own research for the suspension on my 08 650. I don't have the technical ability of blokes like bushmechanic so I need to find stuff closer to plug and play.
