Dear soul mates of the board………

After having opened Mr. Maximus insides,(because of a welding job I need to undertake on the motor case) it seems that the crankshaft has used some “free timeâ€Â

Hello Heimir, sorry to hear about the surgery needed on Maximus. But is you rode the Maico instead; more fun and less problems (sometimes anyway)

You are only going to tack the thing into place enough to grind away in the future, right??

I would think both pieces are steel, and if so, should weld enough, regardless of grade, for it to stick. Granted, it may not be the greatest, but you should be fine.

I would be very careful not to put a lot of heat into it, for the pieces are almost certainly heat treated, and too much heat can undo this, which would be BAD for a bearing surface (hence why I ask if you are only going to tack).

just a silly question,

suppose that someone is rebuilding his berg, on the way he finds out that the crankshaft bearing nests are a bit missaligned (result of a semi drunken welder and an argon welding machine).

also suppose that the berg owner wants to do something about it and one day he reads in a tech book about self aligning bearings.

would this solution be viable??

oem bearings are 6206/c3 and the self aligning equivalent bearings are registered as 1206.

its specs doesn't look good though compared to oem ones:

6206 single row deep groove ball type bearing
Cr (basic dynamic load rating) :
19500 N.
Cor (basic static load rating) :
11300 N.
Speed limit : 13000 rpm.

1206 self aligning
Cr : 15800 N.
Cor : 4650 N.
Speed limit : 12000 rpm.
