Anyone tried one of these? They seem to be a lot cheaper than the Keihin, but is that reflected in the performance?

Hello there,

I put a 41mm TMR "pumper" on my 2002 650. It gave it alot more pick up in the mid range and enabled 3rd gear throttle wheelies (with a race can).

I think it was a worth while purchase and got mine for £200 with the twin cables and throttle tube (which u will need).

The Keihin is better for making fine tuning adjustments. But I have heard that the Mikuni TMR can potentially give more peak power however this is only a rumour.

It was the best upgrade I brought for my bike. :D

Lloyd.

supermoto-- what are the jetting specs you are using. I am thinking of a TMR for my FX600E or my FC501.

Please submit Mian, pilot, needle and any other specs.

Much Thanks

Kev,
Who have you found as a supplier of the TMR in the States? The only info. I can find is that Husky's ship with them.

TMR series Mikuni carburetor: (36mm dia. for the 250, 38mm dia. for the 400 and 41mm dia. for the 450); thanks to the close collaboration between Husqvarna and Mikuni, the TMR carburetor has been installed on an off-road motorcycle for the first time. (The TMR series has previously been used only by Superbikes). There are many technical characteristics that make this carburetor the ideal choice for these new engines: a flat slide valve that allows a better power distribution thanks to the reduced interference of the valve on the air flow, an accelerator pump that improves the engine's reactions and power distribution with respect to throttle commands, and a TPS sensor (Throttle Position Sensor) that determines the throttle position and interfaces with the bike's ignition module to optimize the ignition mapping.

My brother has a TM36 pumper fitted to his XR400 (it was on my KLX300) and it has made alot of difference to performance. Much more pick up.

i would agree, tons of power and throttle response compared to the dellorto and less then half price of the keihin and easy to tune.....

here is my current jetting and info, i have tuned it to 2 cams and will post results for each, i was using a AEM wideband a/f ratio tuner mounted in the pipe right in front of the muffler, tune is to 12.5-13.2 a/f ratio with either cam, on a quick throttle opening anywhere between 1/4-1/2 i could moniter the accelerator pumps effects, a split second drop down to 11.1ish followed by a quick climb back to 12.5-13

bike:1997 fe600e

mods:high comp piston, spes full exhaust, tm40-6 mikuni pumper, nology plug wire with ngk c8e plug, 93 octane fuel, stock ignition timing, mototuneusa intake porting, stock dual filter airbox

atomospheric conditions: 1000ft above sea level, 45f (55cam) 35f (08 cam) degrees farenheit ambient temp (may be slightly rich in the summer)

55cam:
tube or needle jet: y-6
pilot jet: 22.5
main jet: 147.5-150
needle: jdy-1 @ 2nd clip position up from the bottom
pilot screw 2.5-2.75 turns out
idle screw: 5 turns out

08cam:
tube or needle jet:y-8
pilot jet:25
main jet:157.5
needle: jdy-3 @ 2nd clip up fromt he bottom position
pilot screw 2.5-2.75 turns out
idle screw: 5 turns out

guaging by the above idle screw turns out i should likely have a slightly richer pilot jet or smaller air jet i dont know what the airjet i have is i will investigate it later, also will check out my accel pump jet later too, idle should be 3.5 turns out at the most per manual, seemed like most other poeple who i researched also had 5ish turns out on idle screw too....this is a commmon carb of choice for upgrading xr650, dr650 and others

it will require adding a 2 cable throttle tube and two cables, if you have an e-start model, you eill either need to add a new kill/start switch, find a dual throttle tube with one built in, or ziptie your old kill switch to the bars or something. the 1997+ ktm620 lc4 has the same kill/start switch as my 97 and also a double cable setup so you could use your same switch and wiring, if you could find a dual cable tube to fit the domino cable housing that would be cheapest but may take some trial and error research.......

p.s. yes i picked the oldest thread i could find to respond this to on purpose :bounce3:

i double checked and have a 1.1 airjet

i did some fiddling last night with the pilot screw, pilot jet, and pilot air jet last night to see if i could get the idle screw to where its supposed to be (between 1-3.5 turns out but still nothing had any affect, still at 5.5 turns out, i think maybe its a slide cutaway issue, going to be putting everything back to they way its jetted in my previous post with the 08 cam and move on to something else, i think the brass adjuster screw is more important to be in spec than the idle screw anyway and not sure it can even get any better, ill post back if i ever figure it out.....

I did figure this out, and the idle screw doesnt matter, just the brass screw at the front matter and needs to be within 1.5-3.5 or whatever, i was confused due to terminology in the sudco manual, they call the same screw two different things depneding on the section your reading......

157.5 was an error, i never had that in there, oops i meant 147.5

I did end up doing some fine tuning in the summer when it was significantly hotter then when initially jetted
and here is what i changed:

pilot jet:22.5
main jet: 137.5
needle: jdy-1 clip in 2nd down from the top position
the rest stayed the same

there, now this thread can rest in peace and i didnt leave it open ended :D

I bought an FCR kit from sudco, Super nice carb, But i cant for the life of me get the bike to run right with it. Ive been messing with it for a while..

I have had lots of experience with the fcr on Lc4's but honestly i think the lc4's would run with any jetting in them.

I would suggest kicking up a different thread? like on on the fcr?

The fcr is the 'normal' carb people upgrade too so there is a lot of threads on it already and theres info in the doc about it to i thinnk?

Surely some searching will tell you the jet spec others use on the same bike............likely if you have simiar jetting as others with same bike and it still wont run at least 'pretty close' then something else is wrong................

yeah i know, its more i was just venting, I actually had a tm40 on here, but when i had the motor rebuilt i decided to "upgrade" lol
