Hi guys!

Any thoughts on this carb?

Im sick of the Delorto and want to buy another carb. Can this one be fitted?

I don't know about fitment, but you might also want to check out the Keihin CVK-40. The DR-Z400S and SM models have a 36mm Mikuni BSR carb. People have had very good results with swapping in a 40mm Keihin CVK - not only is the bore bigger but the carb itself is better designed as far as I've read. (These carbs come used off of KLR650's, $100+ on EBay.)

The reason I asked about this particular carburetor is because I have a 2004 lc4 640 near me being parted out. I could get this carb for a reasonable price and it is in great shape.

It's a good idea! The BST in my DR-Z is reliable and works OK. Sorry for the off-topic :) Best of luck, and do keep us posted.

Well I think Im going to look for something else. I just realised that the BST 40 doesnt have an accelerator pump. So it wouldnt make much of a difference compared to the Delorto. :((. I was jsut excited since the guy was asking 100 euros for it.

OK, so in case this is useful - the CVK40 doesn't have a pump, it's a vacuum carb - BUT it responds well to having holes drilled in the slide. Very quick action. People are surprised by it. It's not an FCR, but close.

Here's a thread with the CVK40 mod for DR-Z's: http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/277054 ... 0-convert/

Basically it's the carb, attachment hardware for the bike, a KLR jet kit from JD Jetting (to get a good needle), and drilling the vacuum hole in the slide to 3/16". Supposed to be doable for under $200 total.

Note however that "it would take roughly a 42-44 cv carb to flow what a 39mm fcr does" (from the thread above). Someone actually bored out his carb to 44/42.5mm (also in the thread, pg. 7).

And ... there is actually a CVK42 carb used on Harleys that is a vacuum carb but it does have an accelerator pump. Just to throw it out there. That would be more experimentation than I would enjoy doing myself, but info is info, yeah?

That sounds nice :). The season is almost over and the bike is going to hibernate during the winter so I will have plenty of time to make my mind up on the best choice financially. If I wish to get a Keihin FCR, a 39 mm is not enough for a 650?

Tom

The DRZ tuners start going for the FCR-41 at 470cc and up, for the top-end, mostly in supermoto use - at that point the bike reaches 60rwhp - but is spinning quite a bit faster than the 650 so not sure how it translates. Afaik the 39 is fine in that context except for not reaching full potential at high rpm.

(I am NOT an expert btw, just try to read a lot.)

A quick search didn't reveal the FCR bore the later 650s use. I would 't be surprised if it were 41mm.

Well the 41 mm would be my first guess also. A carb from a newer Husaberg would be the most ideal, since that would mean I wouldnt have to bother fine tuning it. Im just hoping I would get one during winter time :).

Tom

Yup I did :D. I just don't know if a 39 mm will be sufficient :(. I dont want to end up spending 200 euros for nothing.

Tom

I just checked in the 2004 husaberg service manual that the 550 and 650 models use Keihin FCR-MX 41mm carbs :(.
