Melting pants on pipe

I just spent half an hour getting black melted plastic off my pipe.
I used a knife blade and 1000grit wet paper, worked like a charm.
I then took the bike for a spin and got home and guess what, more black plastic stuff. Looks like my pants are melting on the pipe.
Does any one have a fix for this, a pipe guard of sorts or maybe some header wrap?

I wrapped mine with header wrap and S/S wire....I have a freind who is gonna fab up ten or so heat shields (anodized Blue) KTM has a heat shield never found one for the Berg...I'll let you know when I get them made....

As the kids say, "that would be the bomb"
I say that'd be cool.
Any idea when these would be available?

Buy a pair of pants that have leather where the pipe meets the pants like Thor core pants or some like that style.

I HAVE A S/S HEAT SHIELD FROM A DEALER IN THE U.K
37.50 IF ANYBODY NEEDS ONE FOR TOOLING MOCK-UP

IT ATTACHES USING A S/S BAND CLAMP ON THE STD EXHAUST
FITS ALL MODELS

I'AM GOING TO RUN THE FULL TI AKRAPOVIC EXHAUST SYSTEM ON MY NEW 06 FE650 AND THE AKRA SYSTEM HAS A CF PIECE TO PROTECT YOUR PANTS THERE.

REGARDS GEE-BEE

I've found this to be a problem too, but my pants are melting on the header pipe next to the cylinder rather on the rear section, so the Ebay guard wouldn't help.

I'm going to buy a new pair with heat resistant panels in the right place.

I haven't had to use the hot start button yet, but a pair of oven gloves might be necessary to prevent burning my hand!

yup I got melting at both spots, pant leg or boot. Trying to just avoid it. I think this happens when you find your self stopped on a slope and put you leg down then your leg is near that pipe.

I'm gonna order that e bay guard.

now if I could solve my rear tire rubbing on my exhaust can. new bike that's not right.

HUSABERG EXHAUST HEAT SHIELD

The pictured heat shield looks great on the european short exhaust pipes but I wonder if it would still fit the pipes on the bikes imported to the U.S.A. I know of a place over here in Arizona that does ceramic coating on headers and pistons and stuff, I was thinking of bringing mine down there and having them coat the inside and out to reduce the exhaust temp a few degrees. The Big Gun exhaust I had on my old 400EX had the ceramic on it and it worked well, still melted the pants sometimes but cooled down way fast!!

Regards,

I also melted my pants on the pipe where it goes by the cylinder. Took me all of about 10 minutes on my very first ride on the bike a couple of weeks ago.
Leather inner patches will work for sure, but I can't believe there is not a readily available heat shield for that spot. I would buy one instantly.

What's really frustrating is that none of the manufactures makes a pant with the Husaberg rider in mind... they all make the heat resistant fabric on the right leg, which mine has, but not the left where the Husabergs exhaust runs. Maybe finding out what type of fabric it is that the use for the heat resistance and stitching some onto the left leg of your britches would do the trick

Regards,

I saw wrap a few sausages around your left leg, make sure you turn them a each stop, and when you and your friends take a rest offer them a delicious treat (and make them jealous at the same time).

This must be an issue with the newer style pipe,
I never had a problem on my 02 FX.I have made
heat shields for other bikes I have had.I would buy
the appropiate size aluminum channel,cut/bend it
into shape, pattern drill some holes in it,and mount it
with stainless hose clamps that I drilled a 1/4 hole in
and put 1/4 -20 bolts thru and added a spacer. The
clamps are hidden under the aluminum, you can buff
them or paint them with black furnace paint. They
are cheap, and easy to replicate if you damage one.

Generally you will only burn nylons on pipe when stopped on a steep hill and your legs are angle down and rearward. In normal ridding it isn't a problem. I don't like the heat shield shown in link above as it doesn't cover most important spot where the collector flares out into the start of the muffler, so even with fitted you can still melt nylons. Australian dealer all have after market shield that fully cover the area. Might not look as good but solves the problen totaly. SEE LINK BELOW

yeah my sheet metal shop friend fashioned a cover all plate like that for my Husky. It too will get your right pant leg when you stop on just enough of a hill where your leg is planted back by the pipe as you put your foot down to stop gravity from sucking you back down the hill. This has happend usually when I'm trail riding on a single track and the guy in front of me gets stuck on a rock or something, there I am on a up slope position with my feet down and pant leg melting. I'm gonna ask my friend to help me make custom cover for my berg. Till then maybe I can just remember to spread my left foot out away from the bike. funny or not so funny actually, I was wearin the same ride MX sttyle pants yesterday, that I burned on my husky. now those pants have burn marks on both legs

Cheers Horto

Thanks for all the suggestions I'll order this one !!! Thanks Horto !! I wear the baggy style MX pants when I TT/flat Track...the exposed pipe is like a magnet for my pants.... Cheers Mate !!

We always wore tight leathers flatracking.
They keep your legs straighter in case of
broken bones.Oneguy with loose pants
actually had a bone sticking through.

yea but I'm a SM guy... we like to be different...besides I'm not into tight leather pants...and If I have a bone stickin out I sure as hell won't be on my bike :D
