Map switch plug picture????

Hey all,
Could some one snap me a picture of the 09' map switch plug, either on the bike or on the switch? It would be great if you could give me a size reference or the distance between the pins as well.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, it uses the same series of connector that the fuel pump uses. (Delphi-Packard Metripack 150). Ballenger Motorsports carries the series and the associated parts in many useful configurations.

You'll find the mating half of the map switch stuffed up in the wad of wiring behind the number plate (or headlight). Compare it to the fuel pump connector (remove seat) to verify.

Thanks for the info. The problem is I don't have the bike, it is my friends. I am trying to make some plugs to use to change the ignition mapping instead of a switch. The Ballenger site will be handy!

There are only 3 unique settings on the map switch - I've got one. Look around here, I've seen the resistance values listed. One of them may be open (makes sense when you think about it). That means you could wire in a DPDT switch with center off to do it. Might do it myself if I can find a small waterproof switch.

6.8K = aggressive
15K = Soft
Open = stock

You could make your own very easily. We just want to get away from a switch for known conditions.

I see, basically a backshell with a resistor that plugs into the map connector. another way you could go is to source just the mating pins - crimp/solder the resistor and use the matching waterproof cover. Eastern Beaver (www.easternbeaver.com) has them for the larger version (280 series) of metripack. I suspect there's a similar one for the 150 series. this one can be used as a fuseholder with the ATM series fuses. I see no reason why you couldn't do it with a resistor also.

VERIFIED!

it is a Metripack 150 and fits the connector I have for my fuel pump cutoff project. the end on the harness pictorially matches the connector above w/ "A" and "B" embossed on it but it is a bit smaller.

Security measure?

yes. just disabling the start doesn't kill power to the ignition or fuel pump. I have found a way to do it without cutting wires.

I am going to create a short harness (4" or so) that goes between the fuel pump and the harness. I sourced a 2 circuit (N.O.) keyed switch from a Suzuki DRZ400 (1768469-001 from www.bikebandit.com). It comes with a mounting bracket that fits under the bar mount of the DRZ, but I made my own dash out of .125" aluminum and discarded the bracket. One could use the Suzuki bracket if you also made a spacer for the other bar riser.

I will use one of the circuits to make/break the fuel pump power. the other will disable the start button. I have the start disable working so far but need a reason to remove the tank so I can run the new harness for the fuel pump.

it will have the added benefit of being able to "shut off" the bike via fuel starvation.

I'll have some pics in a few days when I've got the dash all together and the LED indicators installed.

The plug in the wiring harness is female, the receptacle in the switch is male - assuming we are talking about the electrical pins.

connectors are funny. the body is "male" but the connectors are "female". sometimes the *** refers to the body, other times it refers to the pin.

Ballenger calls this one "male". let's make it simple: here's the URL for the connector which will mate to the map harness. the pic shows the connector, the retainer, the pins and the seals.
