manual cam chain tensioner

are they available for husabergs ?

the acct is constantly putting pressure on the cam chain , a simple back fire can cause the tensioner to extend .

the MCCT could be the solution to the stretch factor of the cam chain , as most of us know the rod of the acct can be fully extended in a very short period .

are you with me on this one taff ???

thanks ben

this device is a ''must have '' for any berg owner .

with the MCCT we are in control of the cam chain adjustment , instead of the acct just keeping pressure on the cam chain and stretching it constantly .

the range of adjustment is poor with the acct , you fit a new chain and instantly the rod has increased 1/3 of the range , then within no time the rod has fully extended .

the MCCT is the answer .

Yes may be, you get tuners who write articles absolutly slating automatic tensioners and others claiming that a manual tensioner causes your engine to self-distruct in 30 seconds. I don't think either is true most of the chain driven OHC engines out there use tensioners like the Husabergs so they can't be that bad. Having said that we use a manual tensioner on the 750 because the chain strikes the tensioner at a less than perfect tangent and we want to control the tension to a finer degree than the automatic tensioner allows. It has improved chain life on the 750.

The JBS Racing IT department (AKA - Me) is working on a new website. This will include the 750 kit of course, and a new high lift long duration cam to help the 750 breath, a vernier wheel for the cam shaft that can also be used with any other Husaberg, double valve spring kits and valves again for any Husaberg, oil cooler kit, manual chain tensioners, and loads of other things. I might even put the twin-spark head on I did if I ever get the electrics on a PCB off of the strip board I desigend them on.

If you realy want a manual chain tensioner why not make one up they are quite stright forwards.

I don't have any long-term experience with the Husaberg automatic cam chain tensioner, but I do with the KTM version, which is the same type. The cam chain lasts as long as the other top end components, so I don't see a problem.

As long as ther are still "clicks" left on the tensioner, it is working. In my experience with the KTM, it rapidly used the first few clicks of travel, and then settled in on the last three or four clicks and did not move. My Husaberg seems to be doing the same.

I guess if you know what you're doing, a manual adjuster would be OK, but I can't see any factory making that standard.

Cam chains don't stretch!

Chains do become longer, however, as a result of bushing wear not plate stretch.

The light tension of the automatic device will not "Stretch" a cam chain.

A manual tensioner will not stretch a cam chain.

Over tension will simply result in premature slipper wear.

So how much tension do you apply with a manual tensioner? How can you tell when you have enough or too much?

I usually put good tension on the chain when it's cold as it will extend when warm.

Actually the tension increases as the engine warms and expands.

How Much is too much:
"Adjust cold for zero slack yet little to no tension"
