Installation Instructions
NOTE If needed please check out web site section titled “What engine do I have”.
XC4 Tensioner location; The tensioner is located in the lower left, rear of the cylinder.
Huseberg Tensioner location; The tensioner is located in the left, rear, upper of the cylinder (It’s the same spot on the cylinder as the above, difference is how the cylinder is positioned on the bike).
1: Crank/Cam position: On the XC 4 the engine position is not critical when releasing tension from the chain.
2: Remove OEM Tensioner: With a 22mm wrench unscrew the original cam chain tensioner cap, its large copper gasket and set aside. The original tensioners steel piston assembly should slip out, note if it has an Oring on it?
If no poke your finger inside using care not to force the Oring further into the engine.
3: Preparing to install the DJH Tensioner: The large copper gasket along with the Oring is then installed onto the DJH chain tensioner. I like to put some Anti Seize compound on the threads, leave the center adjuster screw threaded most of the way out with copper washer and lock nut lightly started.
4: Installation: Screw in the DJH Cam Chain tensioner in, If the threads should tighten up before the copper washer contacts do not force it.
5: Adjustment: With a 3/16 Allan wrench turn the black adjuster screw in until you feel contact, then tighten ½ turn, holding it there with the Allan wrench turn the silver “jamb nut” in until it contacts the cam chain tensioner and tighten it firmly.
Repeat this adjustment approx every 25 hours of use or as needed.
