Making FS650c street legal - Help

Hi, thinking of buying an 03 berg FS650c. How difficult is it to make it street legal with Hi/Lo beam, indicators horn etc as a ‘do-it-yourself’ without having to buy a full kit or do you need to scavenge the parts from ‘e’ model? Also would want to fit side stand and I believe there no lug on the frame to fit one so would have to weld or use aftermarket one. Anyone have experience of doing this or point me to resources on web that might explain?

If it's too much hassle to do I'll prob not buy....

Many thanks

Check the VIN.

Competition only or red-sticker bikes typically have a "C" or "3" in the 8th position of the VIN. If the bike you have under consideration has this C or 3 this is usually a big red flag at the DMV for street registration, regardless of proper lighting and turn signals.

Some state jurisdictions are more lenient/forgiving than others. What is your locale? Please update your UHE profile.

See if you can find yourself a FS650E instead. These bikes don't have the C or 3 type VIN.

Thanks for the advice - will try and get VIN No from seller. In general, is there big difference in models from 03 compared with04 onwards - from the little I've found on Bergs everyone seems to recommend 04 models onwards due to reliability issues with older ones esp main bearing failures!!. Is the 04 engine completely different, anything to do with KTM???

Cheers

First hurdle is the legal status... I got lucky. Took my brand new Cert of Origin down to DMV with dealer bill of sale and paid the taxes, tags and title were in hand after cash was paid for taxes and title fees.

Technical part was fun and easy.

I have an 04 FE550e.

Want any more detail, let me know.
