I have a set of cases that i'm trying to save.
they are 550 cases and basically the mains can turn inside the case on both sides. I bought them with a ball main on the right and the crank was tethered to the left with the now infamous 'bullring'.
all the pressure went on the right main, the ball bearings outer race cracked all the way around the circumference and the middle line. this caused so much pressure on the casing that it cracked out to the front wall.
I've had the crack welded and machined down but I STILL have a problem. the mains are now a very loose fit in the right case and a little loose on the left.
so the idea is a new one for me and that is to have a 3mm radius of alloy removed and a new ring 6mm dia larger pressed in and 'loctited' in.
then it needs line boring so that the cases are aligned. they have very little to go off now that is 'true' we have to have faith in the outer left and right covers that were found to be 0.015mm out in places. also the oil seal holes on both sides.
anyway, I'll let you know how this goes!
