Does anyone have an approximate idea of the following adjustments for a 2002 550FC
dellorto carb in the state of colorado? Which is at an altitude of approx. 6,000 Feet and going as high as say 10,000 ft.

Main Jet Size?
Needle Setting?
Atomiser Size?

I am running a 175 main Jet and it seems too rich, my spark plug is very dark and wet

the main jet isn't too big i'm sure of that. folkk run 185-195 here normally i think. so i would drop the needle a clip. PJ i would leave.

could try going down a plug code from 8 to 7 i think that that will help. also go straight to iridium type plugs, they really are worth the extra with the husabergs.

try to check your slide cutaway size. it should say /30 underneath the slide. also pull tha atomizer and needle, look for bad wear on both. check the atomizer for ovality by looking up it to the flourescent in the workshop.

running rich at 6,000ft is what you're saying yes? not that it's rich at sea level but that you WANT TO GO to 6,000ft?

Correct, the bike is running rich at 6,000 ft. The bike runs fine in all gears until you get up into 5 and 6. Then once your over say 50 to 60 mph it starts to hesitate.

Drydenad,

What a coincedence, I live in Parker, CO too. Small world. I gave up on trying to guage this myself since I live in Parker but ride the Contenential Divide. I sent my Dellorto to Lineaweaver Racing in CA. Dale, the owner of LR, sets up Dellorto carbs for the Pikes Peak hillclimb and modified mine to the same specs. Needless to say it now carbs nicely. Dale did not disclose his trade secrets regarding jet size and carb mods (yes, there are internal mods), and the whole shabang cost me only $200 for a perfect setup.

Dales Web Site is www.d-lineaweaver.com.

Dale rocks!

Here is how I had a DellOrto set up that ran quite well at 6-9000'. Slide was a 40, needle jet DR270, needle K-35 pos 2, main jet 168, pilot jet 35. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your imput, I think this should help me get on the right track

buzzard

i spent so long on that f....ing carb and all along all i needed to do was go from the factory's DR266 to a 270 or 272.....

i was running a 195MJ at the end just trying to get the fuel through! i was getting starvation with a 190!

Taffy
