I've lost the axial clearance on my crank! 8O
Long story...
Does anyone out there have the nominal measurements on:
Distance between main bearings (roller)
Crank width across the inner races

It´s a 2003 650.

Thanks!

I think it is written in the work shop manual for the 01-03 bikes. You can download it from Husaberg web page.

The manual states the width of the crank at the position where the bearings rest. I was kind of hoping that someone happened to have a crank on the work bench to get a typical width across the main bearing inner races. Then I could match it against the distance between the main bearings. Just to make sure where the axial clearance has gone...

BTW: What minimum axial clearance is recommended for the rod at the crank wrist pin?

how can you lose it? i was taught to use a soft hammer on the end of the crank and smack the crank axially back and forth. i cover the threaded area by using a socket. this frees up the crank and bearings and the same clearances should be back as you had before.

I sent the crank to a workshop to get a new bushing in the small-end. After that repair I just smacked everything together, without checking the axial clearance. On my way idling through the paddock, for the 2nd qualifying practice, the engine seized. The right main bearing was in pieces. I replaced that bearing and cleaned everything up as good as possible. When assembling I found that when tightening the bolts for the casing, the crank was jammed! As there was no time to find the real primary cause, I ground off 0,6mm from the inner race for the left main bearing. This resulted, at least, in free play. 4 hours after the engine siezed, the race started. On the 4th lap the engine made noise and I pulled over. Balancer and main bearings were broken.

Sorry about the long story, but as you have realized by now, I´m looking for ammo when speaking to the workshop. The shop claims not to have split the crank when replacing the bushing...
