???
Hi, Can anyone confirm the tappet clearance to use with the LX1 grind camshaft, I have seen .010'' inch ( about .25mm) mentioned, certainly a lot more than std cam clearance?

Cheers spanner.

the same a s standard. i think that that gap is for valve timing.

well i can't argue with the term 'running clearance' however, the standard gap is right because nothing has changed. the tappet clearance is a result of expansion and not based on power etc.

when i did the VALVE TIMING on my ducati the standard tappet clearances were increased just for that purpose. the idea being to get the correct valve duration first and then worry about the timing afterwards. this was particularly important for SOHC bikes where there has to be compromise.

i dunno, taffy...
back in the day doing automotive work with hi perf chevys and fords, there were different running clearances for the more radical cams in the same engines.

i agree ned

triumphs were ten thou and then four if you had a race cam. the opposite of here!

all i can think is they want the CFBs to have more free time to cooooooollllll off?

A bigger clearance would shorten the duration therefore build more compression and increase torque?
Leave the valve longer on the seat to cool off perhaps?
Cam should be here tomorrow.
I suppose it won`t hurt to try it both ways?

I ran a LRX1 cam in my 00 501 for a while.

Dale had me set the valve lash to 0.006" intake and 0.008" exhaust.

On suffering with intake reversion (sever rich bogging 50%-100% throttle below 4500rpm) Dale had me reset lash to 0.010" both valves, which helped.

Dale gave me new info on what to rejet the Dellorto which mostly solved the reversion problem.

Replaced the X1 with a X2.

So, to answer your question, on my 00 501, Dale recommended 0.006" intake and 0.008" exhaust but was willing to try 0.010" on both intake and exhaust to help evaluate a carburetor tuning problem

Hope this helps,

Joe

Thanks Guys, looks like the carb will need some attention, I am running the 41mm Keihin with Dales jetting kit.
I think I saw a post of yours Joe about the problem with reversion, will see if I can find it.

Cheers spanner
