So thanks to the board for all the information - it was a tipping point on my decision. Especially Dale who's posts I found really informative.
I wanted a Husaberg when I first read the reviews last year but as a freelancer the economy was killing me. My KTM was stolen at the time of the crash (economy) and so I spent a year with no dirtbike. It was a very, very long year. But now things are picking up and when the police recovered the carcass of my KTM I was so gutted I couldn't face it. It was stolen two weeks after getting back from full race engine build (bore, stroke, cam, port...). It was recovered seized so hard the cases were destroyed.
While it wasn't the KTM's fault I decided I needed something different and found a used 09 FE450 at Edelmans in Troy, NY. It was over my budget but they allowed me to put some money down and pay it off over a month and when I went to pick it up it was very clean and perfectly prepped with 2010 suspension and a map switch. It's the best dirt bike I've ever ridden.
I just spent yesterday at our shop transferring parts from the KTM and setting it up. As an 09 it was easy to title so now that I have a plate I'm going to look for the harness. Any advice there is helpful as I could wire the whole thing myself but if there's a complete harness already made I'll do that. I put my blinkers, damper, Windam bars and a set of Highway Dirtbike hand guards on it. I've taken two rides on it so far and I can't tell you how much I like the bike. It's got a perfect engine and I've only used it on the 1st and 2nd maps. I'm waiting to try number 3. The suspension came to me just about perfect and the handling is amazing. I'm taking it out for a rock run tomorrow and I'll be sure to snap some photos to put up here.
Again, thanks for the information here. Dale, I'll be looking for one of those tanks soon.
