Lots of SM questions (newb)

Hi,

I joined the ranks last week. I need to convert my race bike for street now.

What DOT 16.5 inch front tires exist ans where can I get one in Canada?

I have a beringer 6 pot with no pressure switch for brake lights, can I just change out the banjo for a ktm unitized pressure switch?

I have the battery and box, does it go in the center of the frame behind the engine?

Where do I find the switch gear for the handlebar, or can I just se and and rewire? Do I need a rectifyer to the battery?

Does anyone make a 170/55/17 fpr my 5.5 rear wheel?

Should I bother with electric start or a fan for traffic? I noticed kmt makes a fan.

Does anyone have any of the parts I need used. I have a tonne of spares with my bike (plastics, rad, rear swingarm and shock, axels etc) does anyone need any of that stuff?

Sorry for the newb, but I have posted around a few other forums. Ill keep searching this one for the electrical.

Best regards,

James

You won't find a 16.5 DOT.....its a street tard...keep the 17" at least you will get rubber for it..

KTM brake part should fit as they are the same stock...

The battery goes as per assumed...I have closeup shots If needed

I might have the switch gear on the handlebar... I'll go dig...If you wants turn signals etc etc I have all of it brand new......... rectifier ??

I'd swap out that 5.5 " wheel....Personally a 5" with a 160 will be more than adequate for the street....just my humble opinion....

Husaberg makes a fan kit as well.... If it were me, I'd go with the fan kit and a Joe racer Oil cooler/resevoir......

Let me know what parts you may need as I have a box of goodies as well.....I do need a race exhaust or at least a can......

I have a 550 sm...yes in Seattle....born in NorthVan... :D

I Just tried the 5.5 this weekend for the first time at the AMA pro race and i loved it. Only thing is than i dented the crap out of it cuz the dirt section was like a supercross track but oh well, it gave me a ton more traction.

Well looks like I have a 16.5 forsale/trade

I guess I need a whole wheel or just the hoop and spokes. I can't recall the name of the wheel I have now, starts with an R and it's supposed to be killer.

Does the stator put out 12-15 volts? I was reading its 20-30 and needs a voltage rectifyer to keep it a level charge for the battery. All the aftermarket lighting kits I've seen are equiped with one behind the light.

I thnk I can make the fan, do I just google the Joe racer products? I work for a race car company and we have a bunch of useless tiny coolers aorund... maybe I can fit one of those?

I like the rear 5.5 but it is pretty huge for street. Does anyone have a decent set of wheels they want to trade for mine? I would like to keep mine but it rains a bunch up here.

I have a titanium FP exhaust system and I was thinking of putting it on, but I dont have access to a gas machine and dyno to rejet.

Thanks for the answers guys!

I'll let you know tonight what I have....

GROK out of Victoria put a Joe racer cooler/resevoir on his 6fiddy....do a search on his previous posts you ought to find it... If not I will find and post a link when I have a minute or two today....
Don't forget a 17" front with that bitchin 5.5" on the street might turn in like a Goldwing.... :D I was doin some thinkin last night and Pirelli makes an intemediate front 16.5 I race it in the rain and dry....its sticks like nuthin else and looks DOT....check out the pict

Nice stuff. I think I will buy a few things from them. Oddly I have that oilcooler here! Time to get some fittings.

Thanks again for the answers. I will legalize with the 17 from my friend and then get that rain tire to keep th popo's happy.

I will post my extra parts to the classifieds today.
