Last sunday at a New England hare scramble event the local offroad community lost a great friend and competitor: 57 year old John Ruffo. It was the first race of the season here and John was excited having just bought a FE250 to compete on in the NETRA and JDay super senior classes. He was about halfway into the race and, from what I have heard and read at his services yesterday, felt chest pain, got off the bike, sat down and had a fatal heart attack. There was an off duty fireman nearby that stopped and performed CPR but to no avail.
I personally remember John more by his race number than his name having raced with him a bunch of times in the 2012 season. He always posted great helmet cam videos after each event.
He will be surely missed.
