Loss of clutch pressure

Somehow my clutch is not working, no pressure in the lever except from the spring in the master cylinder. I determined the issue was not with the master cylinder, nor with the line, nor with oil in the clutch line. I had Magura blood in there, just removed it and tried with baby oil (which is mineral oil) and no better result.

The line has no air (thanks Berger for helping me over the phone), and I can push oil from the bottom up with no issue. If I crack the bottom valve open with the lever pulled, oil runs through. I made sure there was too much oil when I closed the cover.

So... I guess my clutch has gone bad. Ok, what do I need to look at this time?

Thanks for the help!

Also, I intend to add an autoclutch in there, therefore it will make the clutch not very necessary, but I'd like to be able to override, just in case. But I don't think this will prevent the autoclutch from functioning, will it?

Are you losing fluid past the O-ring on the slave cyl? If not you still might have air in the line.
As for the auto clutch, go for it you will not be disappointed. The only draw back is on the year you got it's a PITA if you don't get the set right the first time. It took me 4 tries.

Forget about having the lever for over riding, you will never miss it unless you hook up a LHRB

No I am not losing fluid. very positive there is no air in the line. Should I take the slave cylinder apart next? Is there a gasket like on the KTMs?

I had thaat exact same problem when i first got my 2000 fc501 (used) it was not leaking any oil, but the cup shaped gasket on the master cylinder piston had gone bad, I blead that darn thing too many times with no result before I called a dealer, a trip to town and a 20 dollar rebuild kit and it was all good.

Crap another week end with no riding. What is the part number for the rebuild kit for the 2001-?

I'll clean up my garage instead of riding.

you installed a brand new master cylinder.either you have air in the line or the slave is the problem.their are 2 orings in the slave.i would probably change them out.dan

I know I have no air in the line, because I bled from the bottom, then reinserted air from the bottom, the syringe and the tube had no air, I pushed the new oil until it overflowed the master cylinder and then closed the bottom and pulled the lever until no air bubble came out. Then cranked the bottom valve open with lever pulled, let fluid out, closed the valve, then close the master cylinder after filling to top. I think we can agree the line has no air. I might sound pissed but I am not, so that you know.

I wonder if the clutch rod has not gone? I'd have to open to make sure.

Note someone is selling one for an 01 on eBay right now and is ready to combine shipping, he has a couple more items I might want to grab for spares.

I would think that if your clutch rod was bad the slave cylinder would bottom out against the case then the clutch lever would be solid.
I've had problems bleeding before the problem has been that the clutch hose made a slight rise just as it comes out of the master cyl and it would trap air in there no matter how much fluid I pumped in from the bottom.
You might try unbolting the master cylinder from the bar and hold it up in the air so the hose is almost vertical then add your fluid in from the bottom.

i haven't bothered to mention it which is remiss of me but the ktm's had a lot of BREMBO rouble with bleeding until they pulled the banjo bolt and drilled another hole at 90 degrees to the one under the head of the bolt. when they did that all their bleeding problems went. not related but don't let me forget again!

i always bleed with the handlebar hard to the right and leaning on a rhs wall.

another thing to do is to use a kleenex to wipe the dregs out the piston ports in the base of the mastercylinder: especially when there are repeated problems!

regards

Taffy

Well, it is not leaking anywhere. I guess there still is air in there. In which case I would apologize to Ned.
