I went on a 125km trail ride yesterday through tight trails and when i got back and let the engine cool down i noticed my oil level was down to half .i topped it back up to the correct level and it took 125mls of oil this is the second time it has happened in the last month i have no oil residue in the airbox and no oil leaks.
I have changed the piston and rings 8wks ago and ran it in correctly the bike never lost any oil previously .
Now some details i use fully synthetic oil ,heres the thing i used mobil 4t racing oil 15w 50w they changed from that weight to 10w 40w .Also can over revving your bike through tight trails make you burn oil at all as i know i do that alot ,im running 12 48 gearing for the tight trails seems to be the right combination .
As i have got alot faster now i do notice that i over rev.

Went for a 150km ride today and I didn't loose any oil .
I didn't over rev it today so the finger definitely points to over revving in tight trails for a long time you will burn oil.

Over rev? I thought they have a limiter, mine sure feels and sounds like it has one.

That's right all bikes now have a rev limiter but if your constantly hitting it you are actually pumping unburnt fuel into the bore thus glazing the bore and burning the rings .
Like I said if your hitting it constantly in tight trails change gears to hold it on till you get to the next corner or change your gearing to suit.
