Lookin to buy a 95!

Hey guys/gals, I am a new member of this board, and have mainly been lurking doing some research and wondering whether or not I should buy a Berg.

What I am looking at getting is a 1995 FE501 that's been plated and transformed into an SM with 17" wheels, Light Kit, and all the trimmings. It's in "NON-RUNNING" status and I am not sure of what it will take to get it running though. I intend to check it out in person sometime this week.

Some of the questions I have are these though. Did any of the 501's come with E Start? Or are they Kick Only? Would the 501 make a good commuter bike, too and from work like 5 miles max in town riding? Would it be alright as a Track Day bike once in awhile... maybe 4 times a year? Does it have an oil pump on it?? or is it the 95 before they had em. What upgrades from newer Bergs can I put in like the cam bearings and such?? Will I have to break it down and rebuild it every 90-100 hours??? The valves and the oil don't bother me so much. But having to replace bearings will get old as I plan on riding it everyday to work, I'll get 100 hours pretty quick. I don't mind wrenching on a bike, but I can't see me doing it every weekend. And I guess the last question is.... what's a Non Running 95 Berg gonna be worth??? I mean I know what the selling price is, but just what I have said, which is pretty much all there is to know about it, what do you guys think it'd be worth? Just a ballpark figure is fine.

Anyway, I guess that's all I have for now. Any and all info is appreciated.

Thanx in advance,
DM

I cant answer any of your specific mechanical questions, but I can offer an opinion.
To purchase this bike with any other aspirations other than to have a project bike would likely be a mistake on your part. If your looking for something to tinker with and trail ride on the weekends you may consider it. It is what it is....an 11 year old exotic racing 4 stroke.

Just my opinion.....and I got a lot of em
