Team Husaberg put the long 6 week summer break to good use leading up to Round 5 of the AMA Supermoto Championship at the inaugural New England Supermoto Classic at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT. During the off time Robert Loire not only worked on improving his bike set-up, but also showed the Mid-West locals the fast way around the track; winning both Rd 4 of the Superbikers 2 SM series in Shawano, WI, and a special 1-off intermission race at an ASA Midwest Stockcar event at WIR in Kaukauna, WI in front of more than 7000 fans.
Back to the AMA tour, Robert took an immediate liking to the Stafford Motor Speedway layout and qualified his Michelin shod Husaberg on the inside of Row 2 for the main event in the AMA Unlimited class. With a typically good holeshot, Robert quickly found himself in a race long battle with GP Husqvarna’s Adam Cini and HMC KTM’s Brian Capper for 5th- 7th place. At about the half way point Cini was able to sneak by and open a small gap, while Robert, with the help of his superior Beringer Brakes and Factory Connection Suspension, continued to fight off the South African Supermoto Champ Capper. On the final lap Capper tried an aggressive move in the dirt section with the riders coming together, but Robert was able to stay upright and hold on to 6th place at the line.
While Robert lost some points to race winner and Factory KTM Team Boss Kurt Nicoll, he made up points on championship rival Josh Chisum, so he is able to hold on to a solid 3rd place in the Unlimited series point standings at the half-way point of the championship.
The team’s second rider Mike Bergman has elected to sit out the remainder of the season, so in his stead, likeable Frenchman Olivier Annequin has come back over to join the team for a few rounds for the 3rd consecutive season. Olivier put in a solid ride, but for a few mid-race incidents, and brought the second Husaberg home in 14th place on the day.
After a 6 week break between the last 2 rounds, there is just a 6 day break before Rd 6 at the Music City Motorplex in Nashville, TN. Robert and Olivier will be back on track Saturday, September 1st holding the Husaberg banner high.
We would once again like the thank all of our sponsors for their support: Husaberg, Michelin Tires, Beringer Brakes, Factory Connection Suspension, Wiseco, Loire Racing, JMS Performance, Troy Lee Designs, MXWebsites.com, Fastway, Dixie Sales, and Aero P.A.
