Hi Splat,

Thanks for the outstanding list of hotels and campgrounds. I have a couple of questions though:

1) You mentioned that you will be staying at the slickrock campground. Is this where we will be assembling for our rides? And can one ride out of this campground to the riding area's?

2) Will we need to make reservations at this campground? It seems to me that early March would be the "on" season for riding there.

Thanks for all your efforts,

March is the beginning of their tourist season. The other campground closes in the winter and reopens in March. So availability of lodging should be no problem. I was planning to make that 'Home Base' for everyone to meet either in the am or in the pm after dinner. A meeting place to plan the next day's rides. The main riding areas are close enough to dual sport, but not for an off road only bike, due to the Hwy traffic. The riding trailheads are within 5 minutes north and 10 minutes south of the campground. I was planning on 2 rides each day, typically 3 to 4 hours long. For people that prefer shorter rides, we can split into groups. The trails are well marked and the maps are only a couple dollars. I can show everyone the trails for each day on the map. Then, as skill levels and personal preferences dictate, each person can choose his/her own ride.

I do have several fun scenic rides for the quads and people that don't like singletrack.

I am open to everyone's input on the selecstion of riding areas, but we should leave that until we arrive at Moab. Please check the web for info on various riding areas, but keep in mind, some of the stuff that you find on the web may be a couple hours away or may be too high in elevation and may still be covered in a foot of snow. The elevation where I am planning our rides is 6500' asl; jet accordingly (501 w/dellorto: 45pj, 2nd clip, 185 main). Some areas are 9600' asl, that makes a huge difference in temperature and climate (snow).

I hope this answers everyone's questions about where to stay and where to meet when you arrive in town. I'll post my RV description and license right before the ride and I'll make a sign or banner for my RV space.

Just so that there is no mistaking.........

You are planning on staying in the Moab Valley right?

North end of town, maybe 1/2 mile south of the river.

Howdy Splat and thanks for organizing this.
If I want to camp out in my trailer and do not have a dual sported bike where would be the best place to stay in my toy hauler. And would we be able to ride from that spot.

The Slickrock Campground is where I would recommend staying. The riding areas aren't close enough to any one campground to just ride out of your space. The riding areas are generally 3 to 5 Hwy miles from the campground. I presume that you are pulling a Toy Hauler trailer, so can we not just load the bikes in your truck and drive to the riding area? Do you have a fifth wheel? If so, I have a motorcyle trailer that we will be bringing behind our motorhome. We can hook my trailer to your receiver hitch, drive your truck to the riding areas and leave your Toy Hauler and my RV at the campground. The riding areas are a little scattered around the area, unlike the Moonrocks ride. There are so many from which to choose; too many choices, too little time. We rode all day, for 4 days and didn't cover 1/10 of the trails. Everything from easy pick up truck driveable trails to 'AA' singletrack, with trials-type stair step-ups.

Splat, this is gonna be awesome. Is there a group camping area in the Slickrock campground that we should reserve? A number of campgrounds in Oregon have "group" sites that are appropriate for 30-40 people. BD

If I take my shell off the truck I can get 2-3 bikes in the back, It looks like I will have 1-2 others coming with me. If you can fit a few extras on your trailer that would great.

I just got off teh phone with the nice folks at teh Slickrock Campground.
1. No problems getting a site that time of year. We should be able to camp in close proximity. The first big event for them starts the following weekend.
2. Weather can range from snowing to 70F. "Unpredictable" time of year.
3. Full hookup prices are about $27/nite for double occupancy. $3/nite for each additional body in your space.
4. Group sites are for tent campers only.
5. Reservations can be made on-line at www.slickrockcampground.com.

Husa-fest, here we come! BD

I have 4 trailers from which to choose. I think the 8x14 with 18' high side rails would be the best choice. We could fit 9 bikes on it if we really need or want. Six bikes travel comfortably on it. Do you have a 2" sq. receiver on your truck or a 2" ball mounted on the bumper? Then you could pull the trailer full of bikes to the staging areas. Everyone should remember to bring extra tie straps for their bikes.

I've got an enclosed trailer that'll haul 6 to 8 bikes. Looks like we'll have lots of transport capacity.
