RE: Re: RE: Lineaweaver Update

yes i heard!

he called me last night and said that he'd won. said that bro fell and was hit by a coupla riders so i remarked that he'd be out of the nations race today but he's obviously made of harder stuff and will be on the grid.

it's 10am here and i set off at noon for peterborough to watch the brothers. as soon as i mentioned 'comps' i instantly had 6 freinds!!!!!

BTW, the boys will tell you about the BMF rally it's all going on "in" when you meet them some time.

for the record, the speedway track is in the middle of about 1,000 acres of grass and is used for the cambridgeshire show. this is so big: with best of breeds, best ram, best jam, best bull, best etc etc, best flower arrangement i win every year!

well the BMF is our AMF and they hold this phuqing massive show! trade stalls, probably 40 owners club stands, welly throwing, best custom, best rat bike, trade stalls, best owners stand, moped race and now a short track meeting!

great publicity for the new formula (here). i reckon that there will be between 70 and 90,000 pople at the showground today so if only a few leave the wall of death to go and take a peek it will be great.

apparently darren pearson on the 640 husey gave devin a good run for hios money! they got back at 11pm last night so perhaps they'd enjoyed themselves out somewhere. me! i have a house that is a week away from being ready to REALLY live in and so have to get it done but as the good lord said - "have a day off!".

so i'll go see today!

regards

RE: Re: RE: Lineaweaver Update

well a bit disappointing yesterday for the lads. sheldon was placing 3/5th in the heats while devin was a winner in one and 2/3rd in the other two i believe. (i did miss one of sheldons events).

sheldon was shaking his head all the time which didn't look good quite honestly as the conditions were the same for everyone. the commentator kept saying how the americans were really serious about it and wanted to take the silverware back home etc.

in the final, the front row was italy, GB, italy, GB and italy, then: austria, usa, usa on row two. devin got away equal 3rd while sheldon was perhaps 8th. however devin started going backwards and was down to 7th after 5 or so laps, next time round he fell on his own and after checking he wasn't going to be run over then layed motionless.

the race was stopped and he got up like a frisky young colt! on trying to race again they stopped him and unfortunately sheldon got in a real tiz for his bro and the hysterionics started. he road flat out to the line screeching to a halt while his brother left the track. again - it didn't look good.

the race got going again and the result was in the balance up to the last lap with the position being:

italy, GB, italy, GB, austria, GB, usa, italy. but with two laps to go, darren pearson -laying 4th - on the husey hustled up the inside of the italian and the result went to the GB team - just!

the sport has come a long way here already. but we still wet the track and insist on shale being there. we need to change that! also, the sliders are beating darren pearson's single track style which is good to see.

i met peter boast (the UK series organiser) for the first time as well as darren. shan't bother with darren again as he was a complete arsehole. that's the trouble i guess when you offer to help and say that you know a bit about carbs etc. shame really - i would have done it for nothing but there you go!

im afraid the americans didn't let me know any of their plans and left yesterday morning. they neither thanked me nor apologised for any of their doings. i stayed in saturday evening expecting a call all evening to say they were back but like the first evening i seemed to be just a doormat for them.

it cost me a small fortune when i can least afford it to prepare for them to stay. unaware that there were even three people coming i asked devin if they wanted to go see a 'the who' tribute band on their first evening. this i did at 2pm and they said yes. i paid £36 ($70) for the tickets and then they turned up at 8pm in the evening too late to go! not only that but the two of them was infact 3! as pa was along. luckily i'd prepared a double and single so i guess they sorted it.

i'm afraid they completely overplayed the whole thing and it didn't look good as the boys threw their toys in the paddock.

i'll leave it at that but i could say so much more. thank goodness i've met better yanks throughout my life and will remember these as an aboration.

My apologies Taffy as they can indeed be , er, uh, temperamental.
Racers are a bizarre creed and truly need a straw boss to ride herd. I allow for no such nonsense. Had I been present such would not have taken place.

You are a kind and most generous man. Thank you for taking interest in the sport and please do not allow this single display of poor sportsmanship discourage you.

Sincerely,
Dale

you're star still shines my man and i'm sure that doug doesn't have the full SP on all of it - he seems a nice man. lads are the same wherever in the first world nowadays it would appear.

anyway, it's all forgotten now.

it did however tempt me again! at 46 i still want to have a go at a sport where people meet between races, a place that's woman and family freindly! where i don't have to step in cowshine or get my car stuck everywhere.

we shall see!

Taffy

cheers dale for that and your even handed way of dealing with it.

you'll note that the people they eventually thank were "useful". this is probably the crux of it.

i'll (try) leave it there.

You are a stand up man David and that deserves proper respect.
As you are well aware we are wired in a similar fashion. Even if it stings I appreciate your honesty.

Cheers,
Dale

Ater two solid days of riding in Moab and plenty of conversation, I just learned something. David, huh? It never occurred to me to inquire as to your proper name!

you didn't know!

i have one mate who was asked about 5 years ago what my name was and he said "you know, i don't think i know that!" we went to school together as well!

i guess he always missed registration!

Funny Isnt it how nick names stick.
I think In about year 5 at school I got the nick name "Spud". From that, my mum and dad got mr and mrs spud and my big sister got big spud.
34 years later I still get called spud by most that know me and I can assure you that most that know me dont know my first name is mick.
Funny that.

Unfortunately nick names I have acquired are inappropriate for this forum and not very nice. :(
