not sure whether many of you can add to this but i have went three barrels off to langcourt here in the Uk this year to be re-nikasiled and he has wanted to throw 2 of them away.

they go very oval as they try to rip themselves out of the (hope i get this right?) back top and front bottom. they've also been badly oversize. one was 100.4/100.2 so not only oval but they grow a little as well.

Which engines are they from. Longer stroke 550 or 650's? I would bet the longer stroke would contribute to that type of wear.

oddly enough all three have been from 470's!

put it this way, he said that he had seen evrything except the 92mm 400 barrel. so it tells you that the linars are too thin in my opinion. however, would be pleased to hear from others.

the air cooled barrels on my ducati pantahs used to have half the linar dangling below the fins and into the case. the linars were about 7mm thick whereas they're more like 4mm on the 100mm husaberg linars.

just some ideas and looking for people's thoughts so thanks there jz

I'd like to see a liner measured up when it is removed from the cases , then refitted to the cases with the halves torqued up and remeasured at the same points again....... :?:

The bore gauge reading will move just by squeezeing the removed liner. It is only stable when it is installed and torqued in the cases. The price of the new sleeve is almost identical to the price of a re-nikisil so there really is not much point in it anyway.

i agree that it is almost the same but you are gauranteed something that will fit and something that you'll be holding again in 14 days.

just recently i've started the practice of fitting the linar and spinning it around the piston once before fitting the carnk/rod/piston/linar assembly.

they are all oval. even my baby 400 yesterday with it's fat spigot.

well my little 400 has been bad although they promised me at langcourt that it was done. the HC wiseco has been picking up but because it has done only a few hours it was a warranty job so fair doo's to them!

i had a 470 linar last week that squeezed up around the 'O' rings and took the backface off the piston. the linar is junk and the bloke is £300-£400 out of pocket. that's a lot of money!
