How often do you guys replace your cam bearings??
It says every100 hrs in the manual but I've just had 1 collapse about the 45 hour mark. :(

the trouble is that there are so many variants in the quality of them? if it's chinese - oh dear!

of course the old cams give them the hardest time....

i've had only one go and that was on a bike that was neglected.

did you leave any of the seals on it?

Hi Taffy
I was told that SKF have started to manufacture in China and so went away from them.
It was a new Japanese NTN about 45 hrs ago, just the open variety no seals. It was a C3 and all that - bad call.
The hardening on the bearing inner ring was gone on the area where the lobes would be pushing valves - makes sense cos this is where it would be under load.
The top end was getting oil and I change it often.
I think its the later model cam. I got a secondhand 1 after wrecking mine due to rocker bearing (the cause of the rebuild 45 hrs ago) and its got rounder lobes than my old 1.
Do they all have the same lift?

sounds like bad luck. difficult to see how you can stress them out. to be honest the only difference between new and old is luck.

Yeah well I usually have plenty of luck - mostly all bad.
I hope it was just a bodgy bearing. It's mate on the other side (sprocket side) seemed OK.
Just have to fix all the busted bits .....again.....and hope it lasts a bit longer next time.

the one i had go was on the right as well. it was an old '02 650 and stank of old (unchanged) oil.
