Taffy is 100% correct on this! DO NOT use mineral brake fluid in this application. You will have to hunt around for DOT 5 Silicone brake fluid.

In magura cataloge there are lot of models for lot of motorcycles.I think that some magura master cylinders can be used with brake fluid and mineral oil too amd some only with mineral oil.The husaberg magura is one of those that magura recomends operating with mineral oil.I am not an expert but Taffys idea sounds good.Try to check at http://www.controls.magura.com/english/ ... ameset.htm

i have been running a LHRB system for three years now. i got my rekluse while staying in the states at the first USA force ride of march 2005.

i went to LHRB straightaway as the feeling in the clutch lever was so light it was awful! it felt like the lever wasn't pushing anything whatsoever!

so i have been on DOT5 synthetic ever since with no problems whatsoever.

so it's official!

I run DOT 5.1

I believe the seal weakness is actually in the clutch slave cyclinder and not the master cylinder...

I have used DOT 4 or 5.1 brake fluid in my Magura mineral oil master cylinder for some time now with absolutely no problems.

then if that's true we needn't worry about ANY of the clutch / brake fluids!

Does silicone fluid have a higher boiling point than standard fluids? I was using DOT 3 in my LHRB system and had severe boiling issues after the last desert ride I did with many steep downhills. I need to upgrade to a stronger fluid.

Yes it does, it's up around 500 deg.F. Some people though say there brakes are a little mushy feeling using the silicone fluid vs the DOT 4 stuff.
The nice thing about silicone fluid is that it does not absorb moisture like the DOT 3&4 fluid.

silicone fluid and rear brake

silicone fluid does not give up air easly, hard to bleed, hard to get a solid feel that's why the brakes feel alittle mushy!!
Question, has anyone tried to run the front and rear brake off the right hand master cylinder, travel will double but that will still work for my bike, is there a small motorcycle adjustable portioning valve so you can vary rear brake pressure to get the front to rear balance you like. I know this won't work for everyone but for straight up hard braking with practice I think this might be a good setup!!

what an interesting idea haskell! they have balancer valves for racing cars so it's a certainty that what you want is out there - even if it wasn't made shiny and chrome for a bike! i would have thought that karting would be the perfect place to look?

for me though the non-existant mushy feel to the rekluse was horrible and so maybe i should have nothing on the right bar?

RE: Re: silicone fluid and rear brake

A old team mate of mine from 20yrs ago still uses a road bike master cylinder to operate front and rear brakes together, as he has no right leg! Works a treat.
