I have a 2003 FE 501 E. It has a 15 tooth front gear which I'm considering dropping to a 14 or 13 tooth. My reason for wanting to make this changes is that it wants to die in the real slow and technical areas i.e. creek beds with lots of rocks. It just doesn't seem to like the slow speeds - 5 to 10 mph. I figure I'll have more rpm at slower speed and more torque and thus die less often.

Thoughts, opinions.

yep good move. 15T is mixed highway and oasis blasts. 14T is general use and 13T for racing and riding around cones wiv ya mates!

Just put a 14 tooth on my 02' 501 because I wanted a lower geared 2nd for hill climbs and hate hitting 1st. Interested to see how she does. Never had a stalling problem with the 15 tooth in tight trails but then, I'm constantly dabbing the clutch!

I'm just happy to be upright. Mastering the clutch, that will come later, or not at all. There is a company called Recluse who builds auto clutchs. They seem like a pretty slick deal.

Hi. I run a 13 tooth on the front and a 48 on the back. Works well for me just be careful with your gas hand. You might want to experiment some to see what suits your riding style. Good luck.

I put the 14 tooth on last night. YEE HAAAA! Talk about peppy. Although it was just around the drivway, it was noticable. Most noticabbly was the lack of contact between the front tire and concrete 8O
