Let's hear it for the boots!

Hi All,

I am in the market for a new set and I am trying to decide between a few.

What I like on their face so far is the Gaerne SG1, the Oxtar(something or other), and the Sidi Vortex.

Anyone have a tale to tell about their boots? Anything on these? Whatever...

Thanks, John.

About two years ago I purchased a pair of Fox Forma Pro's. They are a huge step up from my old old JT Dalmations. Comparatively the Fox boots make the old JT's look very unsafe due to their wimpy stature. The Fox are super comfortable. The buckling system seems like a weird set up to me and they were very difficult to snap tight until well broken in. I would definately give them a try on!

I like my tech-6's there great. Had them for five years not one problem. Snaps are a lil hard to close but they last and are strong. Plus they are in large sizes. But my buddy always raves about his sidi boots.

I have had 2 sets of Alpine Star Tech 8's. Now I wear Sidi Flex Force & won't be going back to Alpine Stars. After informing one of my riding buddys (he was wearing Gaerne's) he bought a pair too. I will be buying a new pair later this year just before I collect my new Berger.. They just feel great on.

i have tech 6s as well and they have lasted me a long time. my next set will probably be the new Fly Talons. they are a copy of the tech 8s, but cheaper. the markup on them is a lot, so if your dealer is trying to get retail out of them hes crazy.

I've been a wearer of Hi Point GP (retro black leather with the stainless shin pad) and the Tech 8's. The HP GP was comfortable for walking in (ie trail work) and was easy to shift in, the Tech 8 was very supportive, but hard to shift. I now have the Gaerne SG-10, they have a metal ankle pivot and are comfortable and supportive. I like the Gaerne SG-10 the best of all.

Sidi Flex Force. You won't regret the purchase. Absolutely the most comfortable, long lasting boot I've ever owned, and I've owned many.

I know you didn't mention AXO, but I wear the RC6 and think the are a very comfortable boot. They seem to have good protection and I really like the aluminum buckles. They have replaceable footpeg sections in the sole and do a great job of keeping trash out. I would recommend at least trying a pair on before you buy.

I have also heard the Sidi are very hard on your frame guards and any place they come in contact with the bike. That made me go with the AXO.

Sidi Flex Force are the best boot i've owned. Plenty of adjustments for the calf area, great protection, good ankle motion. Only drawback is the initial cost of ~$280-320. If you want comfort and protection these are the best boots out IMHO. You know what they say, "You get what you pay for"

boots

I've got the Sidi Flex Force's and my brother has the Oxtars. My Sidi's keep on pulling off the right sole around the inside toe area and have been repaired once allready and the Oxtars which are cheaper have been very good boots???????????????

That is a strange thing to keep happening. I wonder if the same would happen with whatever boots you were wearing..? I find the soles great. On my 2 pair of Alpine Stars Tech 8's they would start to 'flog out' in the arch part of the sole (foot peg area) within a couple of rides. The Sidi's still look new there after over 5,000 kms.

I agree with sandskipper, best boot I have owned. I even bought my girlfriend a pair of the smaller kiddy versions (only ones that would fit her). She doesn't know any different but finds them very comfortable..

While we are talking about boots I thought I would say about my boots.I wear Thor LTZ because they were the only ones that don`to hurt my ankles.I can feel the shifter and brake pedal good.Granted they don`to cost a whole lot but if they are the only kind that fit me good that is the only way to go.I have owned them for 2 years with no problems to date.
