LED indicators

Can anyone help me?
I have a 1999 Husaberg 600 FE Elduro. When I bought the bike it had no indicators but the all the wiring was present. I am now trying to mount some LED indicators on the bike but I am experiencing some problems.
First of all I bought a new electronic flasher in order to make the indicators flash, but this did not work out the way I hoped.

After reading other topics on this forum I still is not sure how to fix the problem.

I have three wires connected to my flasher, one is +12V, one comes from the handlebar switch and the last one goes to the indicator bulb in the speedometer and from there to ground.

The problem is that any how I connect my flasher I am not able to make it work the right way.
By changing the connections I either get no light in the indicators, or they are shining continuously in the direction which I switch the handlebar switch. Further I can connect the wires so that the indicators flash like they should by bypassing the wire who runs to the speedometer and make a connection to ground instead. But then the flasher is constantly switching, even when the handlebar switch is in the center position. If I reconnect the wire to the speedometer instead of the ground cable, the indicator bulb in the speedometer is constantly shining as long as the ignition key is turned on. And the indicators some time makes a flash or two but this is seldom.

The electronic flasher has the following terminal markings: X(49), P(C) and L(49a). Inside it looks like there is a coil and a 16V 1500μF capacitor.

Hope someone has an idea.

Is the flasher you are using rated for LED use? The LED's draw little power and don't have the resistance required for the flasher to work. Usually the flasher will be marked LED somewhere on it.

The flasher i an electronic one and quite different from the original. I bought it from a dealer who said it was for use with LED indicators, but the general markings on the flasher is poor. Not even a production name.
I have also wondered if it can be the flasher so I am following up that lead to.

Hello Storm,

Wire colours would be very useful please! :D

This is what I'm going to suggest without them.

Blinker relay connections.

Power supply from regulator/rectifier (you must make sure you're using the rectivied feed 12v DC only!) to L

P connected to indicator in speedo.
X connected to indicator switch.

X to indicator switch may well be red and then you have the switched wires - possibly a blue and a green to each side of the bike.

From your explanation "And the indicators some time makes a flash or two but this is seldom. ", it tells me you might just have a connection issue so you need to go through the entire circuit to ensure good clean and solid connections first.

Hope this helps,
Simon

Hi Simon

The wire colours are as follows: red wire +12V DC direct from regulator/rectifier,
red/black wire through port 9 in contact unit to handlebar switch. And red/white wire to blinker indicator which (on the other side of the bulb) is connected to a brown ground wire.

From the handlebar switch there are green/black wire connected to a green one for the right front blinker, the green/black runs through port 4 in the contact unit and becomes green on the other side and ends in the right rear blinker.
For the left side a white/black wire runs from the handlebar switch and is connected to a blue wire for the left front blinker. The white/black wire runs through the contact unit port 5 and becomes blue on the other side. This blue one ends in left rear blinker.

I have measured the resistance in all the circuits and this seams OK. I m also able to make the blinkers to shine continuously on left or right side of the bike if I connect the red +12V DC directly to the red/black wire from the blinker indicator and put the handlebar switch in left or right position.

I have the original wiring diagram from the owners manual and have found no discrepancies from that. Therefore I thought I would bee an easy job just mounting the indicators and change the blinker relay/flasher with an electronic one. But nope!

You might try to add a cheap resistor to one side just to check the flasher. If it works with the addition of the resistor, then you'll know the flasher wasn't made for LEDs.

Thank you for replying.
The problem is now solved.
I got hold of a flasher from the same brand as the indicators and now they are flashing like they are supposed to.
