Leaking oil sight window FE390

I have a 2010 FE 390 with 4 hrs on it that the oil level window is leaking. This bike was new and put into service 2 years ago. At that time (new) the oil window leaked and was replaced. With only 4 hrs in 2 years, it has not been ridden much but it is now leaking again. It has the narrow tall window. Is there a trick or suggestion to keep this from happening a 3rd time? Is it possible that it is drying out from low use? I am new to Husaberg, just bought this bike from the original owner and ran into this issue. Thanks! Dan

I took it apart and the sight glass was broken, fell out in a couple of pieces. I am not sure if this happened from being positioned poorly in the slot and touching the case or maybe overly tight mounting bolts. I would like to do this properly so it doesnt happen again. Anyone else experience broken oil level glass? Ideas? Does anyone know the torque spec for the window mounting bolts? Thanks Dan

Hi Danbo,

I have some experience with this I'm affraid...
Actually the bolts should be tightened all the way, which should create exactly the right amount of force to compress the rubber gasket.

The problem I found on my brothers FE450 was that the engine cover was slightly deformed due to the bike falling on it on some rocks. You can't see it, but you'll know when you tighten the bolts and you hear the crack of breaking glass...

There's 2 ways of dealing with this: 1. buy a new engine cover or 2. use some gasket maker and don't tighten the bolts all the way. Use loctite on the bolts and keep your fingers crossed that it won't leak.

Good luck.

Thank you for the information. this bike hasnt been dropeed (yet,I havent ridden it much!). I guess the cover could be defective (warped) from the factory? I will use a straight edge and look it over, thanks again
