leaking gas left side

Why would I be leaking gas on my left side? for a few months now when the tank is filled and I'm loaded in the back of my truck, when I arrive at the staging area to unload I find a splash of gas on my truck bed to the left side........the splash leaks never happen on the way home in the truvk so I figured ....maybe the filled tank splashes some due to suspension movement in my truck---though that makes no sense.......BUT now yesterday while on the trails for the first time I notice gas leaking. I had my bike on its kick stand but on a slope to the left just barely not really anymore then another 10-15 degrees further over to the left then from standing normal on it's stand....and the guys asked why is your bike leaking gas? I look down and the drips are driping down from near where the hose connects to the carb.

Home now looking for the culprit. Tank is off. Hoses appeared tight and in good condition. I will pinch off the hose and open the side valve see if its a hose leak, but if it was a hose leak why does it not leak while the bike is on its stand normally?

could it be like a dirty float bowl or something and back up or whatever? what should I look for. The tank iit's self is not the leak. I know that now becasue with the tank off and filled with gas I shake it and no leaks, and it would seem it can't be totally a filled tank issue like I thought in the truck only as that field leak was observed at mile 30.


hmmm? any ideas, guidance. Maybe I should stick a pencil in it?

yes really leaned over like if I lay it down on the side of a trail just like 45 degrees that kinda vent line leaking I have seen with my other bikes. I never experienced leaks in the truck before this bike and it never started happening till like the 80 hour mark 8 months into ownership, which seemed odd. I was ignoring it till yesterday on the trail it was just a bit over from normal and started dip drip drip. If I don't figure it out..... I'll start bringing my eye glasses with me on the trail or heck I can re-create that lean here at home then look for the origination of the leaking.

"I have had "petcocks" leak from time to time as well. They will leak briefly when turning from one position to another." I assume you mean the valve petcocks connecting the hose to the tank...Ill look closer at that too

pinched off the hoses, opened reserve petcock, shook tank around and no leaks, so hoses and pet cocks seem fine upstream of carb connection......maybe It was loose at that hose clamp at the carb copper inlet connection...though I don't like to tighhten that clamp so tight that I cut crimps into the hose. I'll tighten ti down more and maybe if I run my tank with the reserve pet cock off it will help keep the weight of the tank fluid off the hose connection. I allwasy leav the reserve petcock open...just casue MotoXotica said the valve was fragile and dont use it too much....to go ahead and leave it open.


Ill reassemble after i check the valves and hope for the best, then try and make it leak here at home.

meanwhile I just installed new grips and as usual got a major blister on the palm of my right hand trying to force feed those grips on.

the must be a better way this time out of frustration I jammed a long flat screwwdriver in there and used it to help with the twisting and pushing that damn grip on. helped a lot but still it sucks changing grips.

hmmm spray paint ok I'll try next time. Seemed to have fixed the "leak" must have been a loose carb hose connection clamp I guess.

New grips, and valves adjusted... holy molly valves needed it too, been 60 hours. intakes tight, exhaust were loose. all good now. broke off my 0.004 feeler gage in there but it was an easy remove. all good, all buttoned up, runs great. new oil last week. Ready for the best of spring riding season.
