hello all, need a bit of help wiv me fuel tap its leaking around where the tap kions the tank it seems that the previous owner has over tightened the screws and stripped the threads and now they don't pull it up tight enough on the little rubber gasket o ring thingy.
any ideas on how to fix it, or can i just drill new holes next to the others and turn the tap slightly, or would i risk going into the fuel tank ????

If your taps (fuel petcocks) are fastened by Phillips screws, which I believe they are, change them to the hex bolts that come on the newer bikes. A 2005 model for instance. The hex bolts seem a little larger and the thread profile is more aggressive. The screw holes are probably not stripped. Its just that those Phillips screws are not up to the job.

I would order a new petcock as there does not seem to be a rebuild kit available, new o-ring and the hex screws.

I take my petcocks apart and polish the face that contacts the rubber insert and give the rubber a light coat of WD-40 as even new petcocks are a bit sticky.

why not look up the doc and go straight to a husky fuel tap? it' in the doc.

regards

Taffy
