Leaking countershaft?

nowhere near here
It appears my countershaft is leaking. I've searched the forum for this, as well as going through the Husaberg manuals, but I can find no info on how to fix.

The parts manual shows an O ring and an oil seal, but it's not clear if they can be replaced from the outside, and if so, how.

Anyone done this procedure before?

thanks,

Tom

If you're talking about the 2009 and newer bikes, this is a known issue with KTM's. It can all be replaced from the outside. There is a sleeve, seal and o-ring. Many folks use a thicker o-ring. My best suggestion would be to head over to KTMTalk.com and look up countershaft seal. There is a sticky thread over there about how to fix it with tons of suggestions.

Hey, I have 07 550 and the countershaft is leaking too:(

Rode almost 500kms yesterday and had to add about 250ml of oil to keep going. It is embarassing to pull up some where for a stop and to have a big pool of oil under your bike!

I had a 06ktm 300 that had the same issue and I replaced the countershaft parts 2* and it still kept leaking before I sold it.

So I don't have any sure fast solutions, other than the fix is easy but temporary.

I had cs leaking issues with my 07 650 when new, and a new seal did not fix it. Husaberg came up with new lightweight bush design for the 07s and it was a problem on mine. My dealer supplied an older used solid type and leak went away. Nearly 10,000 kms and still no leak.

I had a countershaft leak on my 09. It happened right after replacing the front sprocket with and aftermarket sprocket. It would seem there is a front and back sides to the sprocket. The aftermarket sprocket was stamped on the wrong side so I installed it wrong side up. Ended up with a leak. Removed the sprocket, flipped it around, reinstalled it......no more leak.
Just for what it's worth.
