Late model WP seal?

I guess that if you have coolant leaking out of the little hole at the WP, it needs a new WP seal? Looking at the repair manual, there is also an o-ring further in on the WP shaft that I would guess seals from the oil side, and keeps AF from getting in the oil. Is that right?

Next question is can I dig the WP seal out and R&R without taking off the clutch cover. I think that's possible, but would like confirmation from someone who has already done this repair.

This is the first issue I've had with my Husaberg--just routine maintenance until now.

You can replace the seal from the outside, using a drill an small screw to pull the old seal with. Lightly chamfer the hole before putting the new seal in, and use a little sealant around the circumference of the new seal. Find a socket or some other tool to use as a driver to install the new seal, do not let it get crooked. And yes, there is another seal, deeper in on the same shaft, holding in oil. If both seals are doing their jobs, it should be dry between them.

Thanks. Now I hope my shop has a seal in stock, or else it will be time for UPS blue label. I'm going to try and make the National Enduro in Gilmer, TX this weekend.

This seal is also a KTM part, so it may be available from a KTM shop. I thought I should add that I protected the shaft with a plastic sleeve when doing this work. I drilled two holes, and used two screws, so as to wiggle the old seal out. If you don't chamfer the hole, it is near impossible to get the new seal to start straight, and the lip of the hole will cut the new seal up. I believe that so many new bikes have leaking WP seals because it is so difficult to get the seal started into it's hole with the sharp edge. Factory guys can't do it either. As to chamfering the hole, remove just the tiniest amount with a cone shaped bit on a Dremel tool.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. I will be sure to chamfer the hole. I know to protect the seal from the shaft, I always use teflon tape to wrap the shaft with, works very well.

The KTM four strokes are prone to WP leaks also, since I have owned one of those for 6 years, I've learned to install seals. They use a different type of seal configuration, but the basic installation rules apply. The Husaberg seal is very similar to the WP seal arrangement on most two strokes, of which I've changed a few as well.

To clarify the seal part number (you were correct), my dealer was able to cross-reference the Husaberg part to the KTM part, which he has in stock, since he is a big KTM dealer. I'll do the install tonight.

you can't reach the 'O' ring on the shaft john. it's behind/inside the bearing.

Right on. I wasn't too worried about the o-ring part of the set up. Seems like it would be leaking oil instead of AF if the o-ring was suspect.
Thanks

That was a big time PITA. I ended up taking the clutch cover off so I could do it right.

Hi Johnf3
Good move! Sorry I didn't get in and suggest that to you earlier like before you did it.
I have just done same thing recently. It's not worth risking damage to WP shaft by doing with cover on and would be too hard to install new seal square. Why do things the hard way? Not much effort to remove the cover.
Just my two cents
