Lacing wheels; which spokes where?

Hello forum.

Just received my new spokes and nipples for rebuilding my wheels.

In my haste when removing the old ones I didn't take a note of where the longer and shorter spokes fit in relation to the hub. Can anyone shed any light on correct pattern of where they should be?

Cheers

Stewart

What model is it for/ offroad, super moto etc.

May be able to help with pictures.

Not sure, but think the longer ones are for the sprocket side.

Cush hub/sprocket side has a less of a bend as well.

Has to be for a Cush hub.. Front and conventional rear have equal length spokes.

Hope your hoops are euro pattern and drilled for a Cush hub.

Here's the pics you meant to take before breaking the wheel down.

Note in the last pic, how the Cush side holes are at the very edge of the dimple where it meets the flat part of the rim whereas the rotor side they are back a little.

Note the crack in the rim... It had 8 of them in total.

Lay your old rim next to the new one and make sure it's got the same hole pattern before starting.

Thanks for the replies.

It's a 2005 FE 450 in Supermoto trim. The hubs are talon and the rims are morad. I sent away the old spokes so they could copy them.

Non Cush drive also.

Ok then. You should be rollin' soon.
Now, is it a 5.00" wide rim?

The spokes are different lengths to accommodate the offset.

The longer spokes will be for the sprocket side, as the rim is offset to the left a group.

I don't know how much exactly, I hope you measured it beforehand.

I believe the front is also slighy offset, but the opposite way to clear the caliper. It's prolly not enough to need different length spokes though.

If for some reason you dont have the offset specs for the rear, I can try to come up with something usefull this evening when I get home. (~6 hours)

Thanks idle.

It's a 4.25" rear.

Again, In my haste I never took a measurement of the offset :(

Lessons have definitely been learned. This will be my first attempt at lacing a wheel.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks again

the number on my talons is

TW632A its under the sprocket

yes like Idle mentions longer spokes go on sprocket side

for lace up the KTM offset spec is 3 1/2 inch from sprocket mount to center of rim, if I recall correctly this isn't quite right for my chassis (wheel alignment 2-3mm out compared to the factory laced front) but i made the frame so who knows

Yep, that was prolly what mine was before I moved it over. I got tired of the chain munching the edge of my tire.
I've a 5" rim...

Mine measured 93,5mm or 3.68" from sprocket mount surface to center. ~12.5mm offset

The front? I honestly thought it was more. It's 1-1.5mm at most, (rim is pulled away from caliper side) it can be done if neccesary in situ. Iirc, there was about 2mm of clearance between the spokes and the 4 pot radial berrimger caliper with 310mm rotor.

I had the above pics 2 years when my rim was cracking up. Turns out the third pic is actually a dirt wheel (non cush), so reference that if needed, not the 2nd one.

Thanks for the help. Just waiting on my rims and hubs to come back from powdercoating.

I'll update thread when I get all parts assembled.

Finally got my wheels laced up.

I'm in the process of truing the rear at the minute.

In regards to the dish on the rear, do I true it first, then adjust the offset to what is required?

Cheers

All sorted.

Just need to tweak the front for clearance.

Cheers
