I spent some time recently helping run the Kowen Ride again. Numerous days clearing and arrowing trails. The main guys started last November. I did bail somewhat and used the KLX300 for arrowing and setting up as it doesn't get hot or a flat battery on the snotty single track when setting up the trail, and the sidestand isn't automatic either. Less maintenance too. Did a few days on the 650 just before the weekend, including a major head plant mid Friday afternoon doing the final pass on the south loop. A wheel rut under water about 150 mm deep suddenly became 600 mm deep, and tapped in 4th I failed to proceed. Momentary concussion and a broken helmet meant no more riding that day and a new helmet for the weekend.
2 loops, of about 70 km each. The south loop fairly easy, but still lots of single track, about half, and the north also about 70 km and about 60 km single track. It also included the optional Belray Breaker and Blackberry tunnel of death of which wazzanose, aka Warren Jack, has posted some video here:

Among others, a 390 stars...
and some other Kowen vid links too.
The blackberry tunnel was pumped out on Friday as it was under about 500 mm water.
I did a couple of coaching sessions on Sat and Sun and swept rode the south loop on Sat and north on Sun. Great event, recommended.
