hi i have a 2005 husaberg fs650e and was out playing last night and came onto a long straight road and opened her right up for about 2 miles when i came to the lights and stopped it was making a ratteling noise from the engine when i got bk i checked the valve clearances and the were ok so i removed the rocker cover and once again all seemed fine i have had another look tonight and it seems more like the bottom end the bike still pulls well and does not seem down on power or does not cut out any ideas of what this could be befor i start splitting the motor

Check the end float on stator side see if the is huge amount on none it might tell you the story if the bottom ends a bit so so.

Check the magnets and crank end play if you can. You probably shagged a main bearing. There is a chance the counterbalancer nut may be loose. You might pull the clutch main cover and have a look at it and see if you can see any bearing debris.

i was told that to check the oil level it had to be running when the bike is not running the oil can just be seen in the site glass i have checked for play in the crank there is no in and or side to side play but it will turn slightly befor it takes up tension on the chain is this correct

There is a chance the counterbalancer nut may be loose.

I had that happen on my '02 FE650 and it sounds catastrophic. To check, just lay the bike on it's right side and remove the clutch cover (left side). Easy fix.

When I refill the oil after changing (I measure it) it is up near the top of the sight glass with the engine off and the bike sitting level, not on the side stand.

the loose cam chain sounds like it is in the head. it doesn't hurt though to pull the tensioner and see how many clicks are left.

if it is the mains the right one will go first so I suggest you pull the ignition cover and grab the flywheel. try and rattle the crank up and down.

as mentioned, you can also have the nut on the left end of the crank break so pull the left-cover and look for that nut loose because the end of the crank - the tip - has broken.

regards

Taffy
