Kick Starter shaft popping out when fitting clutch cover

Hi All,

After 3 attempts of fitting the clutch cover (after changing the water pump seal), the ruddy kick starter shaft keeps popping out, meaning that I have to remove clutch and align the whole sodding thing again. I've searched the forum for a way to stop this happening, to no avail. I'm slowly loosing the will to live (although I can now change a clutch in 30 seconds)!

Does anyone have a particular method of doing this or do I just need to be less of a ham fisted *** when refitting the clutch cover?

Cheers,

Martin

take out the kickstart sledge and fit a washer behind each screw. this will keep the sledge key on the crescent at all times. fit my sledge mod while you're there....

sorted!

Thanks Taffy - I'll give it a go.
What's the sledge mod you speak of? How does it help?

Cheers,

Martin

If anyone has the same issue - I found that filling the gap between the kick starter gear and clutch with feeler gauges, reapplying the clutch cover to the point it butts up against the feeler gauges, apply pressure to the kick starter shaft, remove gauges, then bolt the cover up. Simples!
