Kenda tire warranty issue.

I'm currently riding a 2011 FE570S. Prior to this bike, I've been on a KTM 525 and a Honda XR650. In all I've run over 57,000 miles on these bikes with approximately 80% being off road miles. I've tried multiple brands of tires, but for many years now, i've been running the Kenda Trackmaster tires. I've liked the tires because the work well off road, and give decent milage compared to other tires of the same style. I have also noted that they are fairly inexpensive too.

So, since 2004, I'd estimate that I've run through 35 sets of these tires on my KTM alone, and another 30 setts on a Honda XR 400 of my sons. I think that is about to change.

In December I installed a 80x100 21 on my bike and I just finished ride in Death Valley on that tire. The tire, wore extremely funny, almost as if it was out of round from the factory. Since most of the riding was done off road, it was not really noticable when pounding around on the rocky roads of Death Valley, but the tire wore extremely strange. On one point of the tire, it was worn almost to the casing while 180 degrees away on the wheel the tire was still at 70-80% tread.

I brought this to Kenda's attention as a warranty issue. This is the only time I've ever contacted them regarding a tire issue. Initially the engineers stated this was caused by me accelerating while braking on the street, I called BS on that since I wasn't sliding the front wheel around on the pavement and smoking the rear tire to do that. BTW, the rear tire is fine with a uniform wear pattern. After multiple E-mails, Kenda just flat stated the issue was not related to the tire and refused to warranty the tire. They didn't give a reason as to what had caused the issue, just stated it was not caused by the tire.

For the record, the bike is basically new, the wheel is basically new, and the wheel is round and tru. I'm not satisfied with this level of, or maybe I shoud say lack of, customer service, and I thought I'd let all of you know about it so you can make an educated decision when buying your next tires. :cuss:

i just bought a set of kenda's k761 i think, street and trail dot 80/20 street/dirt, have not mounted them yet, on a car i see tires worn like this all the time due to shifted steel belts in the tire that cause a "high spot" the high spot scuffs the gound and the rest of the tire wears ok and ends up like yours or totally bald in just one spot if its really got a bulge will happen in a big hurry, off road you might not even notice a problem till its too late; on road, tires like this cause bad shakes and pulls to one side or the other even if alignment perfect and problem can start as new and only get worse, sad to hear they wouldnt warranty it, glad it didnt explode on you, aslo a real possiblity...
accelerating while brakeing? that is crazy, the wear wouldnt be gradual, if it was a back tire and you were sliding it, sure, as long as the tire was flat spotted (not warranty) and not gradual (warranty)...bike tires have nylon cords and can shift in the rubber just like a steel belt can and cause the goofy wear pattern like yours, and really who doesnt drag a back or front tire during normal use on a bike and still not have a problem? tires should take some sliding.... it takes a lot to flat spot a tire to where it will cause an issue, high speed+back brake+good control+slidin till it goin slow...just ask a grand am gt i had when i was in high school about flat spots in tires....longest posi mark that pos ever laid!....gm knows how to make a e-brake at least...
you could dispute that claim, and try to go through a tire distributor or something, take pictures of the tire and send them in with measurments in multiple places around the tire to prove the gradual wear vs. time since when purchased and your purchase history tp prove your point.
warranty for tires that come with warrantys are horrible in my expirience...prove tire rotation, prove alignment, they wont pay to get them balanced or mounted and will pro-rate you a tire of the same make/model wether you like it or not based out of the amount of life you got out of it.
i didnt think bike tires even came with a warranty? a small rock just right can get a belt shifting and you may not even know it till the tires got a goose egg bulge the size of a baseball...you may not even know you hit simething to make the shift happen, thats why i didnt think they came with warranty to dispute? if they did, tire warrantys suck and are just there to make you feel good about the initial purchase in my opinion.
you should find out who was responding to you and go do some husaberg donuts in there parking lot...be sure to put it on you tube for us to see, thanks..
