keihin FCR slide plate?

i have had to renew my throttle plate on the keihin. if any of you have a used keihin off an early model you must watch for this! they crack around a circular dished area and the cost is £90 to renew....

the way to tell is i believe (not 100% sure on this!) that the underside distance from the 'O' ring to the bottom of the slide is about 3mm.

on later carbs it's up nearer 6-8mm. this gives it strength all the way around the slide and it won't break.

you can hear the slide plate simply by putting your hand over the end of your pipe at tickover. the back pressure will rattle the throttle plate!

it's this continouos rattling that fatigues them and in the end they crack. however, there is one cure you can try and that is simply to renew the rubber 'O' ring that fits the plate. this would have to be ordered seperately anyway but with a new one you will have a firmer fit and less 'rattle'. this should give you possibly an infinite lifespan....

Thanks Taffy,

Per my other posting, I have renewed mine. When I tried your test of hand over the exhaust I still got a bit of a rattle. Didn't check this before I changed it so don't have anything to compare it to.

However, I don't notice any rattle when the bike is running.

Hi Taffy,

i am watching a hesitation out of tight turns when opening the throttle since a few days. Sometimes the bike even stalls. It begins after a few laps on the track when the engine gets warm.

I cleaned the FCR and noticed that the plate on the slide is rattling heavily. I can hear it when opening the gas at idle.

Can the hesitation have to do with the wornout O-ring?

whato LHF

in my opinion no it can't!

the best way to say that the rubber is worn is to hold your hand over the tale pipe and it REALLY rattles then!

your biike is running very rich if it is carburation. if it is electrical it could be that the plug has had enough and if it's mechanical its because the tappets are set too tight!

please check all three.

regards

Taffy

Thanks for the reply,

indeed, the bike seems to rich-stumble,
i tried the following so far:
-different plug
-Valve clearance ok
-coldstart and hotstart knob close well
-all jets cleaned
-accelarator pump ok, squirts for a second
TPS checked (resitance)

next to check:
-Powerblade to remove, slot for the 2 jets at the inlet is very close to the PAJ(100)?
-new O-ring for the slideplate

OK, found the error.

It was a too early begin of squirting of the pump. I turned in the bolt on the leverage one turn and the hesitation has gone.

The squirt-start was set to slightly touch the slider edge on opening the gas. The gap was about 2,5mm.

The new settling has a gap about 3mm.

thank you

LHF
