Keihin FCR 44mm carb

I am having a load of the centre rings made for this carb that will allow 44mm.

basically, you can bore the start and finish of the carb to 44mm but the centre 'ring' won't take it. so I have designed this ring from scratch and I'm having them made. they should be at the Telford Show on the 18/19 February this year.

the problem is that the Pilot hole gets over exposed with the oriiginal set up, the centre ring can be lowered by 1.5mm but that exposes the PJ 'eye'.

I have got this down 1mm (as we speak, and we are still going for 1.5mm) which is getting there. the ring JUST fits inside the slide not only on the sides but on top too!

so much so that i'm having the ring strengthened not on the top or sides but in between just so it has some substance.

you can bore the carb out, anyone can. getting the carb apart and back together is a little harder!

not sure of price? about 48gbp in the EU and 40gbp outside each I believe? anyway, they will be here soon I hope!

Excellent. I'll give one of them a go for sure.

It might even just coincide with the 700 shebangabang ;)

I'll never get my ZX7R finished whilst I also own older Husabergs!

But I can live with that.....

you'd have thought this would have been the number one thing here..... I mean even a 400 needs a 41mm carb so lord knows what anything bigger needs!

Yeah I know!

I think most people seem to be interested in the new gen Bergs these days... which is cool also.

But I for one just can't go past the rawness of the earlier generation models so I'll forever be playing around with mine.

Hope they go into production, I might even take two of em. Just let us know

Put me down for 2. My 600 needs one and the 660 I'm building will need one.

cheers boys, i'll get some photos up sometime of the wortk i did on them.

the thing is, the carb is too small even for a 400 so this should have been done a long time ago.

why do people always talk about big bore or gearing all the time when the real power is sitting in the original engine? it just takes tons of TLC yet the biggest thing we ever talk about is 700cc?

I sponsor a Nordic krossKart team and they claim 100+BHP from a 628 husaberg. that's more than Dr_C gets? the difference over everything else? they ran a Mikuni 50mm.

Wow 100+ BHP from a 628 is quite a claim! But hey, I don't know them so who am I to call bs?

The good Drs motor would have wonderful potential though that I doubt a SOHC could match.... and with the EFI it should be silky smooth on the throttle too... I wonder what size TB he is running as a matter of interest?

My only concern with the bigger carb opening is moving the power up in the rev range?

I'd like both the bigger carb and the 700 thanks all the same as my girth is quickly catching my height and these young blokes aren't cutting me any slack!!

there's a lot to worry about. even the fuel valve may need replacing.

the original carb is a ceiling on BHP.

I've known about the 100bhp for three years and not said it before. I told him that I would tell everyone he was getting 80bhp and then people might find it plausible.
