Okay so I have two "buttons" or "levers" on the carb, one red and one black, the one I bought the bike from told me the red one was choke and that he had seen the black one, that tells me he wasnt really experienced so he cant be trusted. ;)

Well, I know that one is choke and the other one is for warmstarts, but I dont which is for what!

So far I am 95% sure that the red one is the warmstart help and the other is of course the choke.
What do you think?

And the upper is hot start, lower cold start enrichener, AKA choke. Not totally unknown for someone to swap them over, although the plunger is a different length I recall.

:spin:The red one is labeled correctly for hot starts ....it also should be a reminder to watch your arm around the hot pipe !! been there done that melted a couple pairs of gloves and some perfectly good skin

I should really take a picture of my Keihin FCR39 to show you but my carb does not have either a hot start or choke fitted!

My bike is a 2002 fe501 and previous owner had the carb fitted "aftermarket".

Haven't got her running yet but only just started familiarising myself with the carb so I have no idea what sort of effect these missing will have, or if the carb has been modified in such a way that the parts can or can not be re-fitted.

you can't retro fit the stuff without major mynute precision engineering. you just have to keep the APJ connected and squirt it a few times to start it.

Aaron,

I've run this FCR41 on my 650 with no issues. Pretty sure it's off a multi cylinder bike so no choke on the inner carbs.

If the bits in my dodgy yellow lines are attached and working you shouldn't have too many problems as long as the rest of the jetting is good.

A picture makes it clearer and there's no dribble about "can't be done without major mynor precision engineering........

on the topic of carbs from other bikes to make things even more confusing sometimes the machinist with a major in mynor internal prescision engineering is so tricky that the hot start is the top one .. . eg honda crf250r

FWIW I have seen a air flap choke fitted to an FCR on an xr600, looked pretty easy to do
