No, only phillips head looking screws.

Google Vampliers. They will grip the head or any screw, allen etc. Good stuff.

When you open up the carb there is very small JIS hex screw that holds the slide I believe. If you damage it you can order replacements from SUDCO as it is not even listed on some (Husaberg) exploded diagrams.
 
I've asked the seller and he's not too sure. Choke sounds the obvious one as you would mount that somewhere else?

the red button is below the choke so right now you have a black choke button in the hotstart hole!

remove the choke button and put it upstairs. buy a new hot start button in red and put it in the lower hole that's presently occupied.

Used Keihin FCR-MX 41 carb from 2004 KTM 450 SX | eBay

sorry but the hot start is below the choke.. the above is a link.

yet I just did a search of ebay under 'keihin FCR carb' and they are all red below black except one!

now I'm worried...

BTW, the bike would probably not start without choke and would not run with neat air pouring in if it did.

red headers etc.

FCR from CRF450

I bought one from a 2004 CRF450 and it has the RED hot start above the black choke. I got the hotstart cable with mine. Found diagrams for it showing that on that model the hotstart is on top.

Can't seem to fit it on my 400. I cut back the intake boot 6mm, moved the overflow off the bottom. Still hits the starter motor, and the fuel inlet is right on the exhaust manifold. Even turned the fuel inlet on the lathe to give it another 1/8 inch or so. Even tilting the carb I can only get about 1/8 -1/4 inch away from exhaust. That gives problems with the throttle cables though.

I think with any larger cc Berg with the taller cylinder it would work fine.
Decided it is more hassle than I need and put the DelOrto back on it. Runs good enough for me.
 
interesting GWS1....

I always insist people stick with the Mk2 MX carb if they are going to try and look for one. come to think of it there have been one or two touching starter motors on the 450s but I can't recall if they were Honda CRF proddie carbs or not?

a look through ebay on the above link is quite revealing; there are both on there!

so its definitely the hot start then lol.

this carb seems stiff to operate. i was going to strip and clean it as I'm stuck in my crappy room at work with no tv and nothing better to do, but I've no allen keys and one screw is stuck. which do you remove the top or the bottom to dismantle?

I've given it a good clean on the outside and now my room stinks of petrol, sure the cleaner will be thrilled...:p

im also down a toothbrush.
 
Still doesn't work but it's clean. The red Honda bits have gone too!

Hi

The FCR is one adventure that took me a looooot of hours, let me give you some ideas to start with:

I've cut the bottom of the carb, it's not necessary with the new rubbers, but I've only found it after. Anyway its not doing anything important there.

I've used one aluminium intake a the newer intake rubber of the 450, it will give you an angle for the carb to clear the starter. Tried a lot of things, even invented some rubbers of my own, but this is the way to go.

Used the older rubber boot, it's easier to take it out and install it (you will be doing that a lot :D) and also gives you a better angle for clearance of the starter.
