Anyone know anything about this carby? It's a flat slide job that looks similar to the OEM Dellorto. There in a brandnewstillinbox one for AU$280 in left over old stock at a local dealer who went out of hussies a couple of years back. It says on the box it's for a FC/FE 501 and there is a big sticker on it saying it's for competition only. It's probably a gofast mod as the dealer used to sponsor race bikes. I don't think there has been any mention of this carb on the site.

If it is a good carb to use is it likely to give better throttle contol beween idle & about 1/4 throttle? I'm prepared to forego a bit of top end to get better control in the craggy stuff.

Hi Brad,

The PWM 38 Husaberg conversion stems from one of my earlier projects. It started from work with an XR 400 funded by Cycle Gear Inc.

In late 1996 I was contracted to construct two full race 501 engines for Malcolm Smith Motorsports. I outfitted said engines with heavily modified PWM 38 carburetors. The good folks @ Malcolm Smith liked the idea so well that they decided to copy it, take it to market and cut me out of the loop. Unfortunately for them they had failed to realize that more had been done to the carburetor than was clearly visible to the naked eye (ie many internal air bleed modifications). The Malcolm Smith PWM 38 carburetor was a flop.

Since I personally prepared only a handfull of PWM carburetors you most likely have a Malcolm Smith unit. If you would like to forward a picture I can identify the product as my inlet bell adaptor was quite different from that of what Malcolm Smith Motorsports had manufactured.

Kind Regards,
Dale

Thank you kindly for the heads-up! That explains why the ex-dealer still has it in his leftovers.
