Keep the 650 in '09+ lineup ???

How much interest and therefore lobby presssure would there be to get the message to the Husaberg management to keep the existing 650 motor in production for FE/FS/FSc models, obiviously with appropriate annual updates as per normal ?

Seems to me once the new 70 degree slant motors hit the market in 450 & 570 formats the 650 will disappear from the line up.

Sure the new 570 wil probably put out as much Hp as the 650, but in some applications I reckon the gruntier 650 motor may still be better eg desert racing.

Be keen to see what others thoughts are.

The cost of updating an "obsolete" model probably will probably be to high. Unfortunately.

I love the idea of really tricked out FS650ei or whatever the name would be on an sumo with the EFI from the new generation. The magura brakes from KTMs SMR models would be standard as well as the force parts slipper clutch. Naturally the 7.5l plastic tank, in black obviously, would be fitted as well. The all new twin silencer system from akrapovic (it does exist in my dreams) would be delivered in a small box next to the bike 8)
A mini version of this dream MIGHT be in the pipe since the new generation won't have a Sumo setup from the start.

For you Gazza, the FX650ei will "return" :D
The 10.5l tank beefed up to some 15l paired with the reintroduction of the under seat tank and the side panel tank that was available in the late 90's. Donät know of any more cool stuff you guys want but the bike will have them

Did I mention the huge cut in price for both models

Possibly, but KTM has kept the LC4 motors going now for 8 years after the introduction of the RFS motors, different engines for different applications, only just now superseding them with the 690 format engines

Also given the limited development costs needed I would have thought it would be a good return on investment for them..............think Honda and XR's, kept them in sales for years after the competition had moved on

One of many european dealers complains to Husaberg HQ was that there is no "soft" or "everyday" enduro and SM - in order to increase sales numbers and profits. That was especially important to smaller dealers without any other brand on the floor.
Message from the top was "when KTM stops selling bikes with old LC4, Husaberg will receive this engine for producing mentioned bikes".
But, knowing for plans for `010 SM with NEW LC4_690 ...

Cheers, Goran

KTM have a few bikes to choose from .

maybe 2010 we will see a 650 berg , .... hey come on it's 2008 now !!!

to me, and i would say the same for many other 650 owners i would say it is fairly disappointing, to no longer have the 650 capacity ,this is what got me and many other riders into buying a husaberg in the first place.
like we all know ,our 650 is like no other, same if not better weight and handling than the oppositions 450s but with more balls ...yip yah..thats why we bought them.
not for everyone.. sure ,but i am sure there is a huge market for this capacity bike especially in countries like aust and the states where the wide open spaces are a plenty.
husaberg would have made a killing over here in oz if it wouldn't have been for those early models having reliability issues.
as for the new 570 putting out the same amount of power as our old 650s ..probably, but at how many extra revs.... 12000rpm instead of 8000rpm thats the way its going, but not what i want to hear.
i cringe when hear the amount of revs these 450s do when the tracks start to open up a bit, i can do the same pace if not better, at lot less the rpm....(and thats a good thing in my book)
long live the 650 /long live anti mainstream/dare to be different
09 models are anti mainstream engine design, but main stream engine capacity
what if husaberg put out a 750cc with cases that could handle a 20mm wide roller both sides of the crank.
insane maybe, but i bet many people would buy just because its unique.
thats my little ***** for the week.
..weed..

I have heard that Berg with have an SM and Adventure bike in 2010 with the KTM 690 engine. Apparently, the 690 is more Berg than KTM.

When I found out that 2008 was the last year for the 650 I made sure That I got one. There were none left in WA. Orangeberg helped me, making sure I didn't miss out, he is thousands of kilometres away. Some people bought two.

When the motor needs rebuilding It will be a JBS 750 or 800+.

If it wern't for the availablilty of the big 650 Berg and the JBS kits I would be spending my spare time squeezing an R1 engine into a dirtbike frame.

Having ridden my bike and feeling that his cr500 is LAME! my brother considered buying a 650 too. then we strapped 60 kg to his 500 and were quite surprised that handling was pretty good. dropping only 3 seconds of a 5 min lap. He has a spare R1 engine but will perhaps go with a Hayabusa. No replacement for dispacement and lots of room to increase it.

For me Time is scarce and much better spent riding so Im very happy to have bought possibly the last of the big berg models ever made.

Powercell writes on here that he loves his big bike more than his 750 berg. we can't be the only ones who want more power.

If we must Dream then I'm with Popup

Please somebody make a 750 EFI dirtbike that weighs around 110Kg!

Hi Gazza,

the "old" engines are not in line with current emission-regulations (EU3) - so I don´t expect any major updates or R&D work done
(just think about the waterpump...)

true that will probably kill them off :(

It is interesting though that they invested in the development and production of the new small tank for only one years production run

Sad but true... :(

I've decided to put the infamous FE750e up for sale this weekend. I'm in love with my Super Enduro and just never take the time to ride the worlds biggest Husaberg anymore...

My loss will be someones gain I'm sure... :D

There are 2 people I know here in my tiny world of sand who are set on buying a new 650 if it comes back.

They both would never have considered a berg prior to 2008.

both say the bergs now look incredible neither are worried about reliablity after the last years fink and aus safari and I have to near chase them down with a big stick to get them off my bike if they ride it.

They couldn't believe the price.

neither will consider the new slanty motor bike till its proven.

Given there are no more 650's one guy wants an rxv5.5 the other is going back to a little Honda.

It would seem even without any updates/developments Husaberg could be missing out on aussie sales if they ditch the nice big gruntberg 650.

i hate to say it but i gathered by the response from the factory engineers when i spoke on my last trip the 650 is going to be not produced in any form. Hang on to your 2008 and refresh the engine for years to come. damn shame they just get it right and end production.
ORANGEBERG ( in hindsight i should have ordered 100 of them when i had the chance)

RE: Re: Keep the 650 in

Orangeberg is right, the bottom end to the new motor at the moment is living quite fine with the new 530KTM but if they stretch it out to far, hence 600 or larger they cannot guarantee its reliability from a factory point of view, not to say that some smart bas#ard wont make a big bore kit after the fact!
Best Regards
Sutto
