Just Bought an '01 FC600. HELP!!!

Hello everyone.
I've just bought what I think is an '01 model FC600.
I only picked it up on Friday and had my first run out on it on Sunday and all I can say is that it's an awesome bit of kit!!
I had a bit of a head-to-head with my cousin on his '97 Honda CR 500 and the 'Berg was every bit as fast at the top end and left the Honda for dead putting down the power out of the bends.
Is there any way I can check the chassis / engine numbers to find out exactly what year / model it is?
The bodywork & frame look like the 2000/2001 models, but it's not got USD forks.
The frame is also braced on the front downtubes between the engine mounting bolts under the exhaust. Looking at various pictures of other models, this bracing is not present.
Also, should this model have the switchable ignition (softer power for tighter conditions / the full monty for faster, more open tracks)?
My bike doesn't have this.
Where can I get my hands on a workshop manual for the bike?
Are there any checks I should do to make sure everything is is proper working order before taking the bike out again (thinking valve clearances etc?).
What sort of service/ maintenance schedule should I be doing to keep the bike in tip-top condition?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Ross

RE: Just Bought an

manual can be downloaded from the berg home site.

just put the chassis/engine numbers up here or ring a dealer / importer for where you are. found most can tell you straight away what year it is if you quote it to them.

or, if you read the owners doc link on the left, it says that the 10th digit of the chassis number should be a 1. if its an '01.

Chassis / Engine Numbers

I've had a look at the chassis number on the headstock.
It's not 100% clear due to the powdercoating, but it looks like YJFC600/X0000066.
Looking at the 10th digit (0), it doesn't tally-up with the table for any of the model years, so I'm still not sure what year it is.
I also made a note of the numbers stamped on the right hand side engine casing, just below the barrel. These numbers are: 1123151 and 220059 (The 59 looks smaller than the rest ofthe numbers too).
The barrel itself is stamped 600cc.
Can anyone help?
Is the workshop manual downloadable from this site or the official Husaberg website?
Does the manual have recommended service interval & servicing notes / guidelines?
Sorry to be a pain with all the questions, but this is my first Husaberg & First big 4-stoke 'crosser (I'm more used to 4 stroke road bikes & 2-stroke 'crossers), so I'm starting from scratch with this one!
Thanks again,
Ross

FC 600 Tank

Hi there,
The main body of the tank is a light blue/grey colour over which the yellow plastic raidator shrouds are fixed using a couple of small allen bolts.
I've not got any photos of the bike to attatch yet.
I'll try and take a couple tonight, but it gets dark pretty early.
Thanks again.
Ross

It sounds like a model year 2000. The 00 model was the only year that had the new style frame, plastics and and a powder blue tank. All later model tanks were yellow. In 01 they increased displacement from 600cc to 650cc on the big bore. Please post some pics and we will nail it for sure.

Here's the only photo of my FC600 I've got at the moment.
I'm in Scotland, so phoned Dave Clarke Racing in Yorkshire (my nearest dealer) to see if he could shed some light on the exact year of the bike.
He said that the frame number is a '99, but i'm sure it's a 2000!
Apparently the FC600 engines were are the same for '99 & 2000 anyway.
Maybe it's a pre-production model????
I'll post some new pictures when I get a chance at the weekend.
If it's a 2000 model, are there any downloadable wokshop manuals available?
I've had a look elsewhere on this site & on Husaberg's official site and they've got everything except the 2000 workshop manual!!!!!
Thanks to everyone for their help, you can all be sure I'll need some more answers when something goes wrong!
Ross

RE: PHOTO

You don't have the forks of a 2000, I don't think that the new plastics will fit a 99 and older berg. so if you frame number suggests a '99 I may very well be a pre-production model. especially since you have the 99 and older forks..

anybody out there a historian...

Its a 2000 model with later model shrouds. The conventional forks may indicate that this was a FE or FX model that had the lights and starter removed. I know that in 1997 the FC's came with upside down forks and the the rest had conventional. There is no 2000 workshop manual. Use the 1999 manual for all models up to 2000. You can download the manual from this site.

In 2000, the electric start models had the starter on the front of the motor. The frame was actually different from non-e start frames, to make room for the starter motor. However, in that year, the FE and (I think) FX were available in either e-start or non e-start versions. It was the last year one could get an FE without the e suffix. The lightest and maybe best enduro 4-stroke (large bore) ever made. By the way, the electric starter on the 2000 bikes was bomb proof, a bit heavier than desired, and would power the bike up and over almost anything in odd situations (that someone I know gets into occasionally). The bike in the picture looks like a 2000 with earlier model KTM or Berg conv forks (50mm?) and incorrect shrouds, The seat is a correct 2000 seat. This is hopefully some info useful to this thread. I'd say that your bike could be somewhat of a mixup between years. The engine looks like a 99 or 00, frame and swinging arm looks like a 00 and the fork like a 99.

To me the bike is a '00 but with an older fork.
I'd say it is registered as a 99 but built late in the year with mostly 00 components (fork from the '99 and the rest is '00). The engine is naturally impossible to say what year it is.
I grew up just some 2km from the factory where your bike was made and I do know that this was not all that unusual.

from what i can see:
the engine surely is not a 2000 model judging by the colors of the clutch and the water pump
cover and the gear selector which in 2000 was silver and with 4 holes on it.

the exhaust seems to be a 2000 titanium ARROW system for FC's models.

the forks are probably out of a 98.

frame is 2000 for sure.

what a mess

:D
