I was wondering if anyone has jump started there bike via another bike or car? Im thinking of making some small leads for carring in my back pack. How small a gauge wires can I go and/or what should I be carefull of while jump starting? I may never need them but feel better if I have them. Any help would be great.

A few weeks ago I was stranded in a flowing creek with a dead battery and wet bike, I had to get a jump from a quad, the cables were 8mm diameter and it did the job well. We follwoed the normal procedure for hooking up the cables.

I did it last week from my truck. Leave the truck off, connect as normal and it started right up. -20 outside too.

BBB.

Cool thanks for that. Ill make some 8mm leads then. Just in case  . On the weekend I drowned my bike pretty good and it took a bit to crank over. It did start okay in the end but got me thinking, leads might be a good idea.

did water get into the motor?
if it did then of course it was hard to crank over. :spank:
unless its that special stream water that is compressable.
what you should have done is removed the spark plug and kicked it over a bit to get the water out.

Yeah it did get water inside but not enough to do damage :D
All the right procedures where followed.
