Hi all hope someone can help
When I’m Off the throttle in second gear on rough ground my 2003 fe501 has started jumping into nuetral or first . How can I repair this.
Another problem I have is the electric start (or lack of)
I have fitted Taffys easy start carb mod which lets me kick start easily and and I have fitted a Yamaha R6 starter motor. Which spins much faster ,So even when connected to a car battery for extra umph it still wont start . I have taken the manual decomp off and used the lever for the choke .It has back fired a few times and spat oil into the air box (great) .Any ideas great fully received

your geasr selector will be jamming. pull the clutch out and look at the selector plate that slides on the arm. it will be burred. you can get rid of the burrs but I have new plates too!

sounds like tappets are tight and the ignition timing is wrong. check my FB videos of getting the timing right. tappets are donme by others on youtube. remember the golden rule; afterwards you must be able to morse code the rocker arm and hear it JUST at the rear licence plate.

....and next time get your starter off me!!! LOL!!!

Cheers Taffy.
I will have a look inside the clutch side. I have just ordered a water seal and gasket from you if you haven’t despatched it can I add a clutch case gasket ,don’t worry if its to late.
I will check all that you have said.
If I get all this working I will need a new strong battery, Which is the best one you sell for my bike and can you recommend a charger for it too please
Thanks again Taffy you Legend

well I've always advocated getting a bigger lithium-Ion battery. check out the dimensions of the 11, 14, 16 amp Li-on batteries. the battery box is 110mm internally long and can take 110mm tall. width is whatever yours is. I reckon they make a Li-on just big enough to squeeze in.

here's me telling you to do it when I should be doing it myself!

sticking to Gel-cel you need the CTZ7s or YTZ7s. don't get the 'BS' as they have the terminals the other way around.

as for chargers, the lads here will know better than me. I still have my optimate. does a good job. I believe if you go Li-on then they have their own specific chargers that are recommended.

How much you 'must have one' I don't know though?

maybe someone reading this knows better?
