hey guys,,

just a question about my 05 450e,
the bike runs great but on de-acceleration the bike pops from the exhaust .
it also seems to have alot of engine heat , is this normal as its my first BERG?
Or is it an indication of lean jetting.?
its running stock as follows ,
main jet -178
jet needle -obdvr
needle position-6 th from top
mixture control screw-2.0

anyone got any suggestions on what jetting specs i should run?

altitude is about 200m(656ft) and 400m(1312ft) above sea level.

THANKS

they do pop when you back off , but only slightly .

i would recommend you inspect the exhaust connections , and use a quality sealant . paying attention to the mid pipe to muffler join .

you can try an E series needle. the code is in the doc. i get my needles from yamaha. the codes are all over TT in their YZ or WR sections.

the infoormation is on a huge jetting thread in 'fuel' as well.

Taffy

A little bit of exhaust popping on decel is normal. Exhaust leaks can contribute to this issue.

What pilot jet number are you running?

Spark plug color light grey or dark?

Any dyno shops nearby where you can do a dyno run and get the graphs showing your air/fuel, torque and hp numbers? Those charts can be very helpful.

cwalkin you might try a little larger pilot,

with a 45 pilot two turns out on fuel screw

i do not have any popping 04,05,06 fe450.

let us know!

you shouldn't go by the plug colour and you shouldn't go by the backfire noise.

want to get rid of it? just adjust the PS underneath the carb.

Taffy and Dale are the experts.

This works for me, see link, set up a few years ago with major input from Taffy and works great. 1-2 kick starting when hot, perfect linear response and no stalling or popping/backfiring and 100+km per tank.

Hi Steve,
Thank you for the kind words.

FYI:
The FCR MX carburetors of late use a different style pilot fuel fuel jet then that of the initial FCR.

FCR = N24-21

FCR MX = N24-25

Your picture includes an N24-21 style pilot fuel jet.

Sincerely,
Dale

thanks for the input guys,,,
ive put a #42 pilot jet in it and it still pops but not as much and the bike seems to run a bit cooler?
i havnt adusted fuel screw at all and forgot to see what they set it up at,
should i try adjusting the fuel screw first before going up a jet?
can i adjust the fuel screw while bike is running with stock screw?

cwalkin,

yes you can adjust fuel screw with very short screw driver,

but try 45 pilot & then adjust you will like!

please tell us how things work.
