anyone got the specs for the early jetting written anywhere? all I can see in the first couple of owner's and part books are the individual part numbers and not what the specs are.

regards

Taffy

I will dig around and see if I can find or remember the specs for the '96 FE501 I once owned. It used the flat slide 38mm Dellorto with a K35 needle,33 pilot jet, 260 needle jet, air screw 3-3 1/2 turns out, and I think the main jet was a 185. I have the '89-'96 parts manual as a PDF file and it list all the stock specs. for each model.

I also have the 96 parts in PDF but the parts are just that: parts. the customer I'm dealing with has a PHM fitted when it should be a flat slide so he'll need a later spec jetting line up anyway.

Ned
can I have a copy?

Hi

From the 89-96 parts manual you can get some info to the std. setup:

ROUND SLIDE - 180MJ, AB365 Needlejet, 50 throttle, K32 needle, 52 PJ

FLAT SLIDE - 185MJ, FN260 NeedleJet, 55 throttle, K32/k35 ?? needle, 33PJ

bigger engine (501) - round slide, smaller engine (350/400) - flat slide.

I have here one flat slide from the 400-97, I can check and send you the setup that its there, or can sell you the carb cheap :D

and what cc might they be for Ned?

also, the 600 doesn't appear in the 89 - 96 book! so shall we say: 1997?

Taffy

I have the jetting from my 98 600

But my carb is one 40 (round slide PHMBH), like all 600's I think, but is the one from your customer also one 40 ?

this is what I have for the 2000 FX600 I have. The carb is the PHM 40 and the stock settings are:

Main Jet 195
Needle Jet DR 270
Needle K 51
Needle clip post. #3
Pilot 33
Throttle 40
Float valve 300
Start Jet 45
Fuel Screw 1½ turns

I know there are some differences between models, I hope this helps.

thanks for all the help everyone. if the 600 starts in 1997 well then I think that the later specs are just fine. the ignition changed a bit but looks like the same cam as the 501 so should be good with the 1997-2000 specs.

Hi

For the 97/98 FE there is are small dif: clip C2, PJ 40

You can allways play with DR272 and K35 and SJ40, etc.., but you know all that ... or did you forgot ??

I know all that. :D :D me forgetful! tish! tish!

unfortunately Dell orto only made one width of needle and they all 'burble' due to being rich. I have had special brass needles machined for me 3-4 years ago and I've never tested them. never had the time.

Hi Zaga

I have another 600 here today and the needle is a K32. clip 3.

but your 33PJ doesn't make sense with such a large (55) cutaway? could it be nearer a 40?

Hi

Those were the specs that I got for the older bikes.

The ones I mention as flat slide are for the 350/400 bikes and the round slide are for the 501. I don't think that there were any 600 back then.

But even for the 501 the PJ is a 52, the 33 is for the 350/400.

Anyway the stock jetting of my 600 (98) is MJ-195, NJ-DR270, Needle K51, PJ-40. But they go leaner than that as you know. They go to NJ 35 and 33 with DR72 and DR274.

I think that the K32 on that 600 is out of place, probably ??

well this particular bike is a 1995 and it has a 38mm flat slide fitted.
185 MJ
33PJ
K32 c3
FN260 atomiser

just thought I'd add it to the pot!

Taffy

got it running really swtt today with a 38PJ which coincides with my policy of going down one on the OEM specs. so I think that your 40PJ was right Zaga for sure!
