Hi all, ive just fitted a rino exhaust 'silencer' to my 53 plate FS 650 and i have a keihin fcr carb. Im just wondering whether im going to need to change anything settings/jet wise ? I have just removed the carb for cleaning etc and just to check everything is ok internally so any major changes can be done whilst its off. thanks

Alright Smithy lad!

I'd suggest Dyno tuning now that you've got the new set-up, just to adjust fuel/air mixture to optimum.

I think I remember Chris#64 saying the Bergs like to run a bit rich too.

I'm planning on doing the same now I've fitted the new exhaust/DNA air filter.

p.s. if your thinking of getting anything like that done @ Dave Clarke's, drop us a note, I can meet you there one Saturday & we can get them both done?? Treat it as an unofficial UK Force Ride 2009!! LOL :)

RE: Jetting/settings after fitting

WE HAVE LOTS OF EXCELLENT SETTINGS IN THE DOC. THE E SERIES NEEDLE (E.M.S) WOULD BE THE RIGHT ONE FOR A ROAD/TRACK BASED BIKE.

TRY THEM!

there are many here who have them and are no longer at the computer but out riding their perfectly jetted steeds!

taffy, are you drunk ?? :D

cheers i'd best have another browse thru the docs, some of it made my head spin last time i looked although i was under the influence myself when i read through it ...

Yeah crispin i dont see why not. Does Dave have a RR ? I know of a place about 30 miles up from me towards lancaster, ex dyno jet technician set up a RR in a little industrial unit. He seems to know his stuff (took a kwack there, he got it running nice!) and im guessing a carb is a carb (??)

Either way we'll end up going for a burn somewhere !

there are at least 2 riders who catagorically refuse to help anyone here anymore with their jetting. the jetting they run is MY settings and they are as clear as day in the doc.

i can't stop disinformation it's out there....

IMHO it wrecked TT when the **** took over the asylum. we have whole new bunch on here again regards the new model and they'll all be putting the seats under the frames as sump guards pretty soon. you watch.

maybe your 'doc' is a little too indepth for those of us that dont understand jetting etc properly, or how changing one setting alters another etc etc. i like fiddling/fettling but only when im 90% sure of what im actually altering and how it will affect my bike. i am playing catch up here taff (by what, 40 years probably) ! I'll go back to reading about carbs via google before i read your doc again.

oh, and if i find the section headed 'Use these setting when a race can has been fitted' then rest assured i will write the details down and set mine exactly as written !

oh and one more thing - you will NEVER get away from bike noobies, unfortunately the same repeated questions will continue to be repeated whilst you (and i) can still wipe ouir own ars3s. I understand that answering the same question over and over and over is very tedious, maybe just let someone who hasnt always answered them, answer. saves you doing it. i try and use the search but for some reason isnt very accurate (not one bit)

ttfn

take it easy :)

so what do you want smithy?

you wanted levers but did nowt

now you want the straight forward jetting settings and they are there. so is it because there is no explanation with the straight forward settings? come on mate! jeez!

just take the settings and run with them.

to me, this is like getting your car stuck in mud but you don't want to get dirty getting it out!

just chuck the stuff in your carb like everyone else does and then we'll deal with the coughs and splutters afterwards ok?

EMS needle, middle clip, 160MJ to be safe, 35PJ, 45PAJ or the screw instead adjusted to #45. PS out 1.5 turns, accelerator pump off for the duration of testing.

im trying to get a price off dave for shortening the levers but my mate keeps forgetting to ask him. Until then, im gonna wait to see which is the cheapest way to do it. if it means me hacksawing the ends off mine and filing them then thats what il do.

basically ive got a lot of little ideas i want to get done in my winter stripdown. im constantly thinking of other stuff i want to do and just fire the question out here as usually its answered quickly and accurately, saves me ballsing up and coming on here red faced with my tail between my legs.

I have written those settings in my file and will put as you say into my carb, as for testing that wont be until march probably !

with regards to getting stuck and not wanting to get dirty getting out, lets say .... im stuck in the mud in my car, and i have a new pair of wellies. i dont care about getting dirty, its just the quality of the wellies which im questioning. once i have the faith to use them il be jumping around in the mud having fun and il probably have forgotten my car is stuck.

thanks as always
